His voice washes over me, and my heart swells with affection. “I’ve missed you, too.”

“If I don’t see you right now, I’m going to explode,” he says, and I giggle.

“You saw me yesterday.”

“That was a long time ago. I want to see you now.” The authority in his voice brooks no argument, and I find myself nodding.

“Okay.”

“Where are you?”

“I’m at my friend’s—”

“What friend?”

His jealousy is tangible, and I swallow a burst of laughter. “Jasmine…” he calls. “I won’t ask the third time. What friend are you talking about?”

“You don’t know him—”

“Him?”

“Yes. He—”

“Share your location,” he cuts me off. “Right now.” He hangs up, and I dissolve into belly-aching laughter.

“What’s so funny?” Ana asks, and I share my location with Alec before narrating everything to her.

In less than ten minutes, I get a text from Alec. It says, “I’m here.” My heart skips, and I race to the window, coyly parting the curtains to see a black Jeep parked outside with Alec leaning against it. He looks so good; I watch him silently for a few seconds before pulling back, my heart thumping excitedly.

“I’ve got to go.” I hug Ana. “See you soon.”

“Text me, okay? Love you.” She kisses my cheek.

“I love you, too.”

When I walk outside the door, Alec pulls up his sunglasses, revealing his cornflower-blue eyes. He watches silently as I approach, his arms folded across his chest. When I stop before him, his gaze sweeps down my body before resting on my face. “You were saying?”

“What?” I act dumb.

“Whose house is this?”

“A friend.”

His frown deepens. “You had better tell me who he is, or your friend won’t have a home by tomorrow morning.”

I gasp. “What?”

“You heard me.”

“Are you jealous?”

“Yes.”

“It’s Ana,” I giggle. Ana and Alec met at the Christmas party last year. For a moment, Alec says nothing.

“What?” I continue to laugh, enjoying his jealousy.

“You want to play games, don’t you?” He grabs my waist and yanks me close.
