“Hey, guys. Aidan says you might be interested in what we need.”

Patrick shrugged. “Maybe. What do you have in mind?”

“With the proposed tour schedule for the fall, we’re looking at some pretty big venues. Phantom is going to need a right-hand man to help with a variety of security needs for the band. Whoever we hire needs to be able to step in should Phantom be needed by Homeland Security. We need someone with a physical presence who can get along with the band. Someone they can trust.”

I tilted my head to look at Patrick. He looked at me with a ridiculous smile. “I don’t know one thing about security.”

“You don’t have to,” Jesse replied. “Phantom can teach you, but you do know what it’s like to travel with the band, and to take care of their lead singer.”

In many, many ways.

“Is there any reason Patrick couldn’t do the scouting, too? I can’t imagine the coaching staff running him all over the country. Football season is only six months. Besides, they make their draft choices during the Combine, right? That’s where they got you.”

Patrick grinned at me. “Listen to you talk football!”

I rolled my eyes and shoved at his shoulder, making him laugh. “Like it’s hard.”

Patrick leaned in to kiss my cheek. “I’ll give you hard.”

Jesse laughed. “Sound like something Dom would say. Okay, well, you give it some thought, and let us know. The job is yours if you want it. Phantom is actually the one who suggested it, and it’s a great idea.”

“I will,” Patrick said and shook Jesse’s hand.

“THAT MOTHERFUCKER WANTS ME TO DO WHAT? NO, JUST NO!” came bellowing in from the hallway.

Jesse ran his hand over his face. “Maybe I should have told Greer no,” he said to Aidan. “Dare is not taking it well.”

“I’m telling you, there’s a history there we know nothing about.”

Jesse looked at his business partner. “Yeah, I probably better go find out what’s going on.”

He waved at us and headed out to take care of whatever was going on with Greer Rowan and Daredevil.

I looked at Patrick, who grinned back at me.

“You two look like you know something.”

I laughed. “We actually know absolutely nothing. Just find that interesting, that’s all.”

“It’s interesting, all right.” Aidan sighed. “Think about it and let me know what you want to do.”

Patrick reached for my hand. “I don’t have to think about it. I’d love to give scouting a try, and working with Michael is a no-brainer. I’ll take them both.”

Aidan’s grin matched mine. “Well then, welcome aboard EHM Security and Management.”

CHAPTER 26

PATRICK

“You’re the only person I know who can go into a meeting to end a career, only to leave with two more dream jobs.”

I hadn’t been able to wipe the smile off my face as we waited at Alejandro’s Bar for Adam and Michael to meet us for lunch. We were seated at a four-top table near the bar, perusing the menu like we didn’t come here at least twice a week now that they started opening for lunch.

“Hey, guys. Good to see you!” Lauren, the manager said. “How are you doing, Patrick? You scared the shit out of all of us around here.”

I smiled. “Sorry about that. I still have some healing to do, but I’ll make it.”

“That’s really good to hear,” she replied as Michael and Adam slid into their seats.
