He nodded slowly. “Yeah, it feels normal.”

“That’s good.” I leaned to the left and slid my palm onto his thigh. Patrick smiled and easily maneuvered us to the EHM offices. Driving around the neighborhood would be good for him.

“So, to what do I owe this pleasure?” Aidan asked as we walked into his office. He leaned back in his chair and smiled at us like a proud parent.

Patrick leaned across the desk to shake his hand. “I want to talk contract options if you have time.”

“Sure. Let’s sit over there. It’s more comfortable.” He motioned to the sitting area on the other side of the room.

When we were comfortable, I extended my arm behind Patrick and shifted to the side.

“What are you thinking about?”

Patrick glanced at me and put his right hand on my thigh, sending goosebumps scattering over my skin. We’d been together since we were fifteen, and he still had that effect on me.

“I am ready to let my football career go. Taking a chance on another concussion is not something I’m interested in.”

Aidan nodded. “I agree. Simon met with Greer and me yesterday, and he explained the extent of the head injury. The arm should heal fine, but he said you’d need some PT to regain your strength in it. So what do you want to do?”

Patrick looked over at me and smiled. “I want to go on the road with Cole and the band. We’ve got some ideas to talk over later, but right now, I just want to know what my options are with my contract.”

“Let me open the file, and we can take a look. I feel like I remember what’s there, but with three kids and very little sleep, I’d better be safe than sorry.”

Aidan went to his desk and picked up his laptop. He grabbed a remote and turned on the huge screen hanging on the wall. It reminded me of the interview Adam and I had done last year.

“Okay,” he said, taking a seat. “Let me pull your contract and we’ll take a look. I was actually looking at it yesterday with Greer. He had an interesting offer to propose if you decided to pull back. As do we.”

That caught my attention, and Patrick’s too.

“Yeah, what’s that?”

Aidan smiled and motioned to the screen. “You have one more year on your contract, which would be this season. With your injury, you’ll go on the IR and receive the remaining year of your salary. You can opt to retire now, and you’d receive seventy-five percent of it.”

“How much are we talking?”

Aidan pulled up another chart. “Your salary is $15 million a year. It would reduce to $11.25 million.”

I looked at Patrick with a raised brow. “Wow, I don’t know if you can live on that.”

He rolled his eyes. “Smartass. If I run out of money, you’ll just have to keep my ass up.”

“He’ll be able to do just that when we finalize some things. Creating our own label is going to change everything. But Greer also has an offer.”

Patrick looked at Aidan. “Okay”

“He’d like another scout, like Jackson. He takes care of the Northwest, but he’d love to have someone scout all over the country. That could work with you traveling with the band.”

Patrick’s eyes lit up. “That could be amazing.”

“It could. But we also have an option for you. Let me see if Jesse is available.”

Adian got up and walked out, leaving us looking at the screen.

“What are you thinking?”

He smiled. “I love the idea of anything that lets me be with you and have some part of football. Even if it’s in the team office.”

Jesse walked in with Aidan before I could reply that I fucking loved that idea, too.
