Basil held the back of her head and kissed her. Janet placed her hands on his chest and kissed him back. Basil opened the front door and picked up Janet into his arms. She kicked the door shut and he headed up the stairs with Janet in his arms.

“Where are you taking me?” she asked him. She started giggling.

“Shhh, if you laugh loudly, then Sanaa will hear you, and if she hears you, she’ll run to you.”

“What’s wrong with that?”

“You spend time with her all the time; it’s my turn now.”

Janet laughed even more. “That’s so immature, Basil,” she said. He smiled and shrugged his shoulders in response. They walked down the corridor and reached Basil’s bedroom. He opened the door and walked in. He kicked the door shut and set Janet down on his bed.

He walked off into the bathroom and returned with a small first-aid kit. He placed it on the bed and rolled up Janet’s T-shirt.

“It’s not bad,” she said to him. He took out a cotton ball and dabbed it in an antiseptic solution and cleaned her cut gently. Janet watched him cleaning it and then putting a bandage over it. Janet kissed him on the forehead.

“Thank you,” she said. Basil put the kit on the nightstand when he finished. He got onto the bed next to her and caressed her face.

“I’ll never let anyone hurt you again,” he said. Janet searched his eyes.

“You’re good to me,” she said. Basil kissed her hands.

“You’re so beautiful,” he said.

“Am I?”

“Of course.” Basil leaned in and kissed her cheek.

“What’s beautiful about me?”

“Your face,” he kissed her jaw. “You have beautiful eyes, lips, cheekbones.”

“What else?” Janet giggled.

“Your skin is beautiful.” He ran his hand down her side. “Your body, your heart. Everything about you is perfect.” He caressed her thighs.

“So, you just love me, that’s what you’re saying?”

Basil smiled and kissed the back of her hand. “I do love you so much. I don’t know what I’d have done if I had lost you today,” he said. Janet stroked his face and searched his eyes.

“I love you too,” she said. She’d never said those words to anyone who wasn’t family. She’d never had feelings for anyone like that. She was truly happy and in love with Basil.

A few days later, Basil parked his car just in front of the beautiful white house. He grabbed the flowers and got out of the car. He walked into the house and heard voices coming from the living room. He headed over to the living room and saw Sanaa and Kim in there, talking about their meeting schedule for the fall.

“I finish school at 3; I can come right after,” said Sanaa.

“That works for me but what do we do about weekends?” Kim replied. The two of them looked so serious as if they were discussing something so important. Basil smiled to himself. Sanaa and Kim had known each other for such a short time, but they had quickly bonded. Basil was happy seeing his daughter have a close friend.

“Hi.” Janet walked into the living room and approached Basil.

“Hi,” he replied with a smile. He looked at Janet from head to toe. She was wearing a yellow summer dress and had her hair down. It was his first time seeing her in a dress, and he thought she looked so beautiful.

“You’re gorgeous,” he said.

“Am I?” Janet smiled and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear.

“Hmm.” Basil stared at Janet. He wanted to hold her and kiss her.
