Basil got down to one knee in front of Janet. “Are you okay?” he asked. Janet searched his eyes before she threw her arms around his neck. She was so happy to see him. When Pablo was about to kill her, Basil’s face was the last to flash in her mind. The thought of never being able to see him again was terrifying for her.

“I’m okay,” Janet said. She held on to Basil tightly as the tears fell down her face. Basil pulled her out of his embrace and did a quick inspection. He saw blood on her right arm.

“That bastard,” Basil swore. Janet smiled and shook her head.

“I’m okay, don’t worry about that little wound,” she said to him. She reached out and touched his face.

“You’re safe now; I’ll never let you get hurt again,” he said.

Janet heard the officers arresting Pablo for kidnapping and attempted murder, for ordering a hit on Basil’s wife and for smuggling drugs. They handcuffed him.

“I hope you rot in jail. You should have stayed away from my family when I warned you. Now you got what you deserved, you piece of crap,” Basil said to Pablo.

“You will regret this!” Pablo spat out in outrage.

“No, you will regret not staying in your lane and coming after me. I’m ending this nonsense feud, don’t even try to harm my family or my business. If so, not only you but your entire family will pay the price.” Basil’s voice was deeper and scarier. Pablo turned red in the face, he looked so angry.

Basil returned his attention to Janet. In one swift movement, he scooped her up into his arms. Janet squeaked at the sudden lift. She wrapped her arms around his neck and allowed him to carry her out of the warehouse. His car was parked outside. He put her into the passenger’s seat and buckled her in. Janet watched him being so caring with her; it was adorable.

“I’m glad you’re okay.” Basil cupped her chin and pulled her face towards his. He pressed his lips against her. Janet smiled and ran her hand through his hair.

Basil closed the door and then walked around the car and got into the driver’s seat. He started the car engine and drove off.

“How did you find me?” Janet asked Basil.

“After you told me about the cartel, I had extra security around the house and had someone keep an eye on you whenever you left the house,” he said. Janet raised her eyebrows.

“You weren’t scared of the cartel?” Janet asked Basil.

“No.”

“You said that you were ending the nonsense feud. What did you mean by that?”

Basil sighed before he responded. “Well, his grandfather and mine were once business partners,” he said.

“Really?” Janet gasped. Basil nodded as he took a right turn.

“Fady, my grandfather wanted to extend our business into Mexico, thirty years ago. That’s when he met Carlos, Pablo’s grandfather.”

Fady wanted to break into the Mexican market as an oil supplier. Carlos was an ambitious man who wanted to expand his transport and shipping company. Fady saw potential in him and decided to partner with him, giving him a chance to extend his reach into El-Tabas.

Fady was able to transport oil into Mexico using Carlos’ services. However, their partnership ended when Carlos started smuggling drugs into El-Tabas. When Fady found out what Carlos was doing, he terminated the partnership and used his family connections to make sure that Carlos couldn’t do business in El-Tabas or other Middle Eastern countries ever again. He even got all his ships confiscated by the El-Tabas government. A few years later, Carlos tried to have Fady killed when he visited Mexico. The feud trickled down to their children and grandchildren.

“Wow, that is crazy,” said Janet. She was shocked that Basil’s family and the cartel had had a feud for so long.

“So, even if you didn’t buy that truck, he was always going to find a way to try and kill me,” said Basil.

“What will happen to him now?”

“Well, the FBI has been trying to arrest him for years. He should go to jail for killing Rania, kidnapping and attempting to kill you, drug trafficking and other murders he’s responsible for. We don’t have to worry about him ever again.”

Janet sighed with relief. She was glad that it was all over. Working for Pablo had been a nightmare for her. Finally, she was free from him, and it was all thanks to Basil.

They arrived at the sheikh’s house and parked outside the front door. They both got out of the car.

“Does my mom know what’s been happening?” Janet asked Basil before she opened the front door.

“No, I didn’t get the chance to tell her. I just wanted to get to you as soon as I could,” he replied. Janet stood on her toes and kissed Basil on his cheek. She was touched that he cared for her and had just saved her life.
