“Basil?” She was surprised to see the sheikh’s brother at her doorstep. “How did you even know where I live?”

“Do you think a man of my status wouldn’t be able to find out where you live?” he asked.

“That’s creepy.” Blake shrugged her shoulders. “Come in.”

“Thanks.” Basil walked into her apartment. “I brought churros and ice cream.”

“Oh yay. I like churros,” she said as they entered the living room.

“I thought you would.”

They sat down at the sofas and started eating. “So, what brought you over?” Blake asked him.

“Well, it’s Sunday and I thought you would be home. I just wanted to come over and say hello,” he replied. Blake raised an eyebrow.

“Did your brother give you my address?” Blake wanted to ask him about Bassem but she didn’t want to be so obvious.

“No. He’s still in Al Huddah.”

“Still?”

“He told you he was leaving?”

“Yes.” Blake nodded.

“I returned last night but he stayed behind because he had some matters to attend to. He should be returning within a day or two.”

Blake was not sure how she felt about seeing Bassem. It had been awkward the last time they had met. Part of her wanted to see him but she was worried about how it was going to be. She had told herself that she was not going to develop any feelings for him and yet she found herself thinking about him more than she needed to.

“Oh I see,” Blake replied. “Do your parents know about the abduction?”

“Funny you mention that.”

“Why?”

Basil explained to Blake that when their mother found out, she came to Austin immediately. Then they returned to Al Huddah because it was only a matter of time until their father summoned them. He told her about the king making Basil work and live on his salary. Blake couldn’t help but laugh.

“Geologists make a lot of money,” she said. Basil curled his upper lip.

“It’s not enough for me to live on,” he complained. Blake rolled her eyes.

“I have no sympathy for you. I’ve had to live on part-time jobs that pay much less than a geologist when I was at the university.”

“Have you?”

“Of course. I actually attended MIT on scholarship.”

“Wow, you must have been very smart. MIT is already hard to get into, but getting a scholarship; that’s impressive,” he said before stuffing a churro into his mouth.

“I just worked very hard.” Blake smiled.

“Did you know that Bassem went to MIT?”

Blake looked surprised. “I didn’t know that,” she admitted.

“He did, and he did very well.”

“He’s smart?”
