“I will be careful.”

He nodded. “Living inside a palace will probably be hard. There will be many rules. Make sure to stay out of trouble and not to offend anyone,” he said. Fiona smiled and nodded. Her father was always so calm and always gave her good advice.

Two days later, a car came to pick up Fiona around 6 a.m. Lady Agaiby’s assistant had sent the car to take her to the airport. She bid her family farewell as the driver packed her luggage into the trunk of the car.

“Make sure to call every day,” said Fiona’s mother before she hugged her. She was so emotional because it was going to be the longest time Fiona was ever separated from her.

“I will,” Fiona replied. Her father rubbed her back.

“Make sure to take a lot of pictures of the palace and send them to me,” said Toni. She found it hard to believe that her older sister was going to work in a palace. She was going from working menial jobs in the Bronx to working in a palace. Toni wanted Fiona to send her pictures and videos of the palace. She also wanted a picture of the so-called prince.

“See you when you get back,” said Terrence. He was so nonchalant about the whole thing. He rarely showed emotion.

“Make sure you behave yourself,” Fiona said to him as she pushed him playfully.

Fiona got into the backseat of the car, and the driver shut the door behind her. She looked out of the window and waved at her family. Her mother tucked a lock of brunette hair behind her ear and smiled. Her eyes were already watery. Fiona shook her head. Her mother always got emotional. Her father was the opposite. He was always calm and wise. He was the strength of the family.

They reached the private airstrip a little while later. The jet was already fueled up and ready to go. A flight attendant greeted her and escorted her into the jet. Fiona slowly walked down the aisle wide-eyed. The interior of the jet was white and black. She sat on a comfortable white leather seat. There was a marble-topped table in front of her. Behind her was a black sofa with white cushions.

“This will be a long flight, miss,” said the flight attendant. “You can sleep on the sofa if you wish. I will get you blankets, and if you need the bathroom, it is in the back.” She gestured towards the door behind Fiona.

“Thank you,” Fiona replied.

“Is there anything you need before we take off?”

“No, thank you.”

The smartly dressed flight attendant smiled at her and nodded. “Please put on your seatbelt. We will take off in a few moments,” she said.

“Sure.” Fiona buckled herself in. She took a deep breath and just looked around. Everything was just so surreal. She couldn’t believe that she was sitting in a private jet that was more expensive than her family home and everything in it. Fiona looked out of the window and watched the buildings as they quickly sped past them. Moments later they were off into the air.

The flight attendant reappeared a little while later with refreshments. Fiona smiled and thanked her. She felt so pampered. It was so exciting. She wished that her best friend Gloria had been there to enjoy the flight with her. Neither of them had ever been on a plane or out of the country. They had both always wanted to board a plane and go somewhere nice for a vacation.
