“Hello, I am Dr. Ansari, his psychologist,” she said.

“It is nice to meet you.”

“How long have you been his caregiver?”

“Three weeks,” Fiona replied.

“I see.” The doctor nodded.

“I will leave you to keep on talking.” She looked at Daniel. “I will be in the kitchen if you need me.” Fiona walked out of the room. Daniel kept his eyes on her until she had disappeared.

“It must be her,” said Dr. Ansari.

“Excuse me?” Daniel turned his head and looked at her.

“She is the reason why your mood has changed.”

“I don’t follow.”

“I can see the way you are looking at her.”

Daniel raised his eyebrows. “I am looking at her in the same way that I look at everyone,” he said. Dr. Ansari smiled and shook her head.

“She seems to be having a positive impact on your life. Keep her around,” she said. “I know all your caregivers have left within days of looking after you. She has already been with you for three weeks. That is the longest so far. Please keep her around,” she added. Daniel shook his head.

“I think we have reached the end of this impromptu session,” he said.

“I hope to see you again. I will book an appointment for you next Monday.”

“That is a waste of your time.” He had no intentions of showing up.

“I will wait for you.” She rose to her feet and gave him a bow before she left his quarters.

Fiona popped into the room. “You have a therapist?” she asked.

“Not by choice,” Daniel mumbled. Fiona laughed.

“What do you want to do today?”

“You ask me this every day and nothing ever changes.”

“I always hope you change your mind.”

“I just want to have breakfast.”

“Okay, I will get breakfast ready for you. After, why don’t we go out into the city?”

Daniel whipped his head in her direction and looked at her as though she had lost her mind. “Why would we do that?” he asked her.

“It would be nice to change your surroundings,” she replied with a big smile on her face as if he had agreed.

“No, I don’t want to,” he replied.

“Why not?”

“Do I have to justify my answer to you?”

“Not really but it doesn’t seem as though you have a good reason for refusing. We’ll just be out for an hour.” Fiona flashed a toothy grin. Daniel narrowed his gaze at her. “I am going to take your silence as a yes.” She gave him a thumbs-up and hurried off to the kitchen.
