Chapter 13

Fiona rose from the bed immediately when she saw the queen standing in the doorway. Her face had gone pale. Her ice-cold gaze was fixed on Fiona.

“Good morning, your highness.” Fiona greeted the queen with a bow.

“What were you doing just now?” the queen asked.

“The prince was feeling pain in his lower back and so I was giving him a massage to alleviate the pain.”

The queen crossed her eyebrows. “You don’t have the right to touch his royal body,” she spat out. Daniel puffed his pillows and just leaned backwards.

“I just wanted to help,” Fiona replied.

“Then you should have called a doctor instead.” The queen sighed with frustration. “When Lady Agaiby hired you, I didn’t like the fact that you are not educated but I said nothing. However, if you have ulterior motives then I will have to get rid of you.”

Daniel raised his eyebrows. He actually knew the reason why Fiona hadn’t gone to a university but not because she was not smart enough. He looked at her and waited for her response.

“I assure you, I don’t have ulterior motives,” she said.

“Just take the day off.” His mother dismissed Fiona with her hand. Fiona bowed her head and headed towards the door. The queen looked at Fiona as she walked past her and left the room. She shook her head and then approached Daniel. “Since when did you start allowing maids to touch your body?” his mother asked as she sat down at his bed.

“It was just a massage,” Daniel replied.

“You could have gotten a professional to help,” said his mother. Daniel just stared at her with a blank facial expression. Normally he would have agreed with her and never allowed Fiona to touch him. However, he allowed her to massage him and he didn’t think it was such a big deal. “I don’t like her,” his mother added.

“You dislike her because she does not have a degree?” Daniel said lazily.

“She seems as though she has ulterior motives.”

“Such as?”

“She probably wants to use this as an opportunity to become the crown princess.”

Daniel smiled. “Every woman wants to be with me. This should not come as a surprise to you,” he said. His mother shook her head.

“Anyway, I came over to speak to you about Noor and Amina.”

“Must we talk about them?”

“You were so rude to them yesterday.”

Daniel made a face. “I am not interested in either one of them,” he said. They were beautiful but he had his own issues regarding marriage. He was not ready to be with a woman. Strangely Fiona had guessed the reason why he didn’t want to get married. At first he had gotten angry at her for even daring to ask him such personal questions. However, she made him feel a little bit better by telling him that he was still a man despite being in a wheelchair.

“Daniel, you are thirty years old and you are going to be the king one day. You need to be married and produce an heir,” his mother said gently. Daniel sighed.

“Father is still in great condition. He is probably still going to be the king in ten years. There is no rush for me to wed.”

His mother narrowed her gaze at him. “I don’t understand why you are so stubborn. Your father and I had already been married for three years when he was your age,” she said.

“You dismissed my maid. Who will take care of her duties?” Daniel asked. He no longer wanted to talk about marriage.

“You have other maids.”

“She is my so-called caregiver.”

“I think I may have to bring in someone new.”

“Because that worked so well in the past,” Daniel said sarcastically. His mother frowned at him and looked away.
