Daniel narrowed his gaze at her. He looked at her as though he did not believe her words. “If you say so,” he said. Just as Fiona was about to reply, the car came to a halt.

“We have arrived, your highness,” the driver announced to Daniel. He pressed a button which brought out the ramp. Then he got out of the car and opened the door for Daniel. Fiona guessed thatit had cost a lot for Daniel to have a ramp installed in his car and the seats removed to accommodate his wheelchair. She got out of the car from her side and walked around to Daniel’s side. He slowly went down the ramp.

Daniel and Fiona headed towards the massive building that stood before them. Two of Daniel’s bodyguards followed behind. The glass automatic doors opened when they approached them. A lady at the reception desk got up immediately and came to greet Daniel.

“Good afternoon, your highness,” she said with a big smile on her face.

“What’s good about it?” he replied. The woman’s smile faded as she shifted uncomfortably. Fiona widened her eyes and just looked away. It was suddenly awkward because of Daniel. He was just always so mean to people.

The woman cleared her throat. “Dr. Tafwik is ready for you. Please follow me,” she said. Daniel and Fiona followed her to the elevator. They all got in the modest-sized elevator. Fiona found herself standing very close to Daniel. Her hip was practically against his arm. It was so awkward. The journey to the fourth floor felt as though it had taken minutes instead of seconds.

Fiona sighed with relief when the doors opened on the fourth floor. They followed the receptionist down the corridor and into one of the rooms. The room was filled with weights, exercise machines and other exercise tools. Everything was neatly arranged and the room was clinically clean. There was a middle-aged man in the room. He greeted Daniel with a bow.

“I am happy to see you, your highness. A few weeks have passed since you’ve been here,” he said. Fiona raised her eyebrows and looked at Daniel. It was not a good idea for him to miss his physical therapy. Daniel just looked at Dr. Tafwik with a blank facial expression.

“Can we just get this over and done with?” Daniel said.

“Yes, let us begin.” The doctor walked around Daniel and grabbed his shoulders.

“What are you doing?” Daniel spat out.

“We need to start with some basic stretches.”

“I can stretch by myself. Please don’t touch me.”

Fiona was just standing there with her hands in her pockets. She watched the doctor back away. He clearly wanted to help Daniel but the prince wasn’t easy to help. He did not like being touched nor did he like to be told what to do.

Dr. Tafwik took a few steps back. “My apologies, your highness. I wasn’t trying to startle you. I just want to help you with the stretches,” he said.

“Shall I help?” Fiona asked. Daniel turned his head and looked at her as though she was crazy.

“Yes, you can,” said the doctor.

“What?” Daniel spat out. Fiona slowly walked towards Daniel. She knew that he did not like her touching him either but she wanted to help. She felt nervous as she approached him. She just knew that he was going to snap at her.

“What do I need to do?” she asked the doctor.

“Are you crazy?” Daniel asked her.

“I just want to help. It’s either me or him.”

Daniel groaned and looked away. Fiona slightly raised her eyebrows. Daniel was actually giving up and allowing her to touch him. She was quite surprised. She just looked at the doctor and gave him a nod. The doctor nodded back at her and explained what she needed to do.

Daniel raised his left hand as high as he could. Fiona held his arms and helped him stretch further to the left and to the right by pushing and pulling him further. Fiona felt butterflies in her stomach. Touching Daniel made her feel slightly nervous and made her stomach knot up. His arms were quite big and felt as hard as stone.

“Now, I need you to stretch his legs gently,” Dr. Tafwik instructed Fiona. She nodded and walked around Daniel. She took her time stretching each leg. Daniel sat in his wheelchair and let Fiona help him. He did not say anything nor did he make a face. It made Fiona relax a little but she felt nervous about being so close to him.

After the stretches, Fiona helped Daniel exercise with the free weights. She held his arms to support him as he lifted the weights. All the pushing and pulling was getting Fiona a little tired. It felt as though she was getting a full workout.

“This is the end of the session. Next time we will try to increase the intensity of the workout,” said Dr. Tafwik. Fiona huffed loudly. She was glad that it was the end of the session. It was hard for her to be so close to Daniel and be touching his strong arms. It was also hard moving around Daniel lifting weights, bending and stretching for a full hour.

“You are quite unfit,” Daniel pointed out.

“I think I am okay.” Fiona smiled.

“You need to work out more.”

Fiona laughed. “Yes, I do. I just need to improve my flexibility and agility,” she said. Daniel nodded and actually smiled. He had such a beautiful smile; it melted Fiona’s insides. It was the first time she had seen him smile and she felt good knowing that she had something to do with it.
