Chapter 11

Fiona sat across from Daniel in his expensive black SUV. The beige leather seats were very comfortable. Fiona had never been in an expensive car before. She didn’t even have her own. There were two identical cars, one behind their SUV and another in front. Both cars contained Daniel’s bodyguards.

Fiona looked over to Daniel who sat to her right. He was staring out of the window. He had such an impressive profile. His jaw was nice and strong. His skin had a beautiful glow. He was so handsome, Fiona thought to herself.

Suddenly Daniel turned his head. Fiona quickly looked away. She did not want to get caught staring again. She had been caught on her first shift with him. She had been working for him for a week now. It had been a week of highs and lows. Daniel was difficult to look after. He was always upset, he was picky about food, he snapped at everyone and he purposely created work for her just to make her miserable. For example, he would make her hand-wash his clothes when there was a washing machine in his quarters.

“Why are you staring at me?” Daniel asked her. Fiona turned her head and looked at him.

“I was not staring at you,” she lied. Damnit, she swore quietly. She had been caught yet again.

“You were.”

“I was not.”

“You cannot resist my good looks.”

“What?” Fiona burst into laughter. “That did not sound conceited at all,” she replied sarcastically.

“It’s the truth.” Daniel’s intense green gaze was fixed on her. It made her insides melt like butter in a hot pan.

“Mmhmm.” Fiona looked away.

“You do realize that you did not have to come with me today.”

“Of course I had to.” She was escorting him to physical therapy. He had refused to have her escort him but that was one of the things Lady Agaiby had mentioned as part of her job description. She was to escort and assist Daniel with physical therapy.

“No, you didn’t have to,” Daniel replied. Fiona sighed.

“I am sure by now you have figured out that you can’t turn me away nor make me quit.”

Daniel groaned. “What if I said that I would pay for your university tuition if you agree to return to New York?” he said. Fiona looked at him with her eyebrows raised.

“I would say that is tempting but I would not have taken this job if I was going to easily be paid to quit,” she replied.

“You said you took this job to make money for tuition. So I am offering you what you want.”

“Why do you desperately want to get rid of me?”

“Two reasons.”

“One?”

“I don’t need anyone to look after me.”

Fiona narrowed her gaze at him but she did not agree. He needed someone to look after him and someone to talk to. “Two?” she asked.

“You are a little annoying,” he replied. Fiona gasped.

“I am not annoying.”

“I beg to differ.”

“No one has ever said that I was annoying.” Fiona tucked a lock of curly hair behind her ear. “What have I done that has been so bothersome?” she asked him. She was curious to know if he really thought she was annoying or if he was just saying it for the sake of saying it.

“You are everywhere. I can never get any peace.”

“That is not true. I only come to you when it’s mealtime or when I am just checking if you are okay.”
