“I will just gently prick his feet to check if he has gained sensation in his feet,” he replied. Fiona nodded with her eyes widened. She looked terrified of the needle as if she was the one about to get pricked. It amused Daniel a little. Dr. Sadiq slowly but carefully touched Daniel’s right foot and pricked it in several locations.

“I don’t feel anything,” Daniel said. Dr. Sadiq did the same to his left foot but Daniel did not feel anything. He tapped Daniel’s knees to check for reflexes but nothing had changed. Daniel could not feel anything nor could he move his legs.

The doctor proceeded to ask Daniel about his pain. He wanted to make sure that the pain was manageable and if it was not, he would prescribe more medication or different medication. He talked about different things Daniel could do to manage pain. As he talked, Daniel found himself not paying attention. He was feeling angry all over again. He hated having to be in that situation in the first place.

“I will make sure we follow your advice, thank you for coming,” Fiona said to him.

“I bid you farewell, your highness,” said Dr. Sadiq. He offered Daniel a deep bow.

“I will walk you out.” Fiona walked out of Daniel’s bedroom with the doctor. She returned to his room moments later.

“Are you okay?” she asked him.

“I’m fine,” he snapped. “I need some time alone.”

Fiona nodded. “I will be in the living room. Please call me if you need me.” She turned and walked out of the room. Daniel noticed that she had not bowed to him yet again. He just shook his head. He didn’t know if she was doing it intentionally to annoy him or if she just was forgetful, since she was probably not used to doing it.
