Chapter 5

Kiro

Kiro arrived at his Dallas mansion almost twenty minutes after eight. His maids welcomed him with smiles and bows. He responded with a nod before he headed upstairs to his bedroom. He took his clothes off and went to take a shower. His after-work routine included taking a shower before having his dinner.

He headed downstairs after showering and changing into a loose pair of slacks and a T-shirt. The maids had already set the dinner table. He sat down at the head of the table as he always did and started on his dinner. His mother disliked the fact that he dined alone. She thought that he needed someone to keep him company. However, he liked the peace and quiet.

“Would you like anything else, sheikh?” one of the maids asked him.

“No,” he said as he rose to his feet. He left the room and headed to up his bedroom.

The next afternoon, Kiro arrived at work at 4:45 after having a meeting in Houston. As he got out of the car, he saw Emma parking her car also. She opened the door and jumped out. Her eyes widened when she saw Kiro.

“Good evening, sheikh,” she called out as she slammed the door with her left foot. She quickly approached him.

“Hello,” he replied.

“Technically it’s late afternoon, so it’s more like good afternoon.” Emma laughed a little. “Are you just coming to work now?”

She seemed like a talker, Kiro thought to himself. He just started walking towards the stairs. He had half a mind to ignore her but she quickened her pace and started walking with him.

“I finished at the university at 4. Thankfully there was no traffic,” she said. Kiro and Sadiq looked at each other.

The three of them exited the underground parking lot via the stairs. They headed towards the office building entrance. Emma walked next to Kiro. He wasn’t used to people walking next to him, unless it was a member of his family or a business partner. Since he was the crown prince of El Sourial, people had to walk at least two steps behind. It was weird having Emma walking next to him. Kiro caught a whiff of her scent. She smelled like coconuts.

“I’m off to my desk, have a good shift,” she said. Kiro raised his eyebrows and grunted in response. She smiled before she headed to the reception desk. Kiro watched her from the corner of his eye as he headed to the elevator. She had an odd walk. She swung her arms too much. He shook his head and looked away. The elevator doors opened and a woman walked out. Kiro and Sadiq walked in after her.

Emma

Emma cringed as she sat down at the reception desk. She had talked so much to the sheikh. She felt so embarrassed. She knew that she should have been quiet but the words just bubbled from her throat. Emma ran her hand through her hair and shook her head. Have a good shift – the words echoed in her mind. She wished that she had not said them.

“Hi Emma.” She heard Dania’s voice. Emma looked up.

“Hi Dania,” she replied.

“Third day; how are you finding it here?”

“So far, so good. I am quickly settling in and getting used to everything.”

“Good. I have some reports that need typing, and need to be sent to different clients.” She handed Emma some documents.

“Sure,” Emma replied as she looked at the paperwork. Dania smiled before she walked off. Emma wore her headset and then started with the typing. A tall man walked in through the automatic doors and stood at the gate near the reception.

“Could you let me in?” he called out to Emma. He was wearing a pair of charcoal-grey trousers and a black shirt. He had silky jet-black hair that touched his ears. His complexion was a little bit darker than Kiro’s.

“I’m sorry, sir, do you work here or are you here to see someone?” Emma replied as she rose from her desk. She had only been working there for a couple of days, so she didn’t know the workers yet. She picked up her tablet and walked over to the gate.

“You’re new,” he said as he looked at Emma from head to toe.

“I am. So you work here?” Emma tapped the tablet. “You must have forgotten your card. Could you give me your name please?”

The man raised his eyebrows and slipped his hands into his pockets. “Raphael,” he replied. Emma typed his name in.

“And your surname?” she asked.

“Tafwiq.”
