“Neither have I,” said the king.

“I appreciate her courage but I can’t have her as my daughter-in-law. The differences in culture are too many,” said the queen. Emma jerked her head up and looked at the queen. Daughter-in-law? Emma was starting to get the feeling that Kiro had talked about her to his parents before. It would explain why the queen already wanted Emma gone.

“She is the only woman I have ever loved,” Kiro said. His mother gasped. The king looked at Emma.

“How old are you?” he asked her.

“I am twenty-four years old, sir,” she replied. The king had such an intense and intimidating glare.

“What do you do in Dallas?”

“I am currently at the university in my final year studying economics.”

The king raised his eyebrows. “Do you love my son?” he asked her.

“More than anything,” she replied. He was the only man that she had ever loved, and he was probably the only man that she would ever love.

“You already know that Kiro is going to be the king of El Sourial. He needs to marry an Arabic woman with an exceptional background,” he said. His words hit her hard. It felt as though someone had stuck a dagger in her chest.

“I understand,” Emma said with a shaky voice. Kiro whipped his head in her direction.

“What do you understand?” he asked her. “I should be allowed to marry whomever I want.”

“Do you want to marry me?” Emma asked him. He hadn’t actually told her that he wanted to marry her.

“I do.”

Emma blinked a couple of times to stop the tears from flowing down her cheeks. It wasn’t the type of romantic engagement that a woman would want. However, she was okay with it because she loved Kiro. All she wanted was his heart and he had already given it to her. He had told her that he loved her.

Emma looked at the king. “My father passed away many years ago. I live with my mother and my two sisters. I know that my background isn’t amazing but I am willing to do whatever it takes to be with Kiro,” she said. Kiro raised his eyebrows in shock.

“The only reason that we are even having this conversation is because you saved my son’s life,” said the king. Emma nodded.

“I will learn Arabic language and culture. I will be a good wife to him and a good mother to his children,” she said.

“The two of them are stubborn,” said the queen as she shook her head.

“I agree,” said the king.

“I need time to process everything that I just learned. For now, please return to Dallas,” said the queen. Emma nodded.

“I will return to Dallas,” she said.

“Emma!” Kiro breathed.

“I understand this is all too much for your parents to take in. I would like to give them space to think things over. My return to Dallas doesn’t mean that I am giving up on us,” she said to Kiro. The king raised his eyebrows. Emma smiled and bowed her head to him.

After dinner, Emma and Kiro returned to the bedroom that she was staying in. Emma stood in the middle of the room with her hands on her hips.

“When did you talk about me to your parents?” Emma asked him.

“On Saturday night,” Kiro replied. He simply said three words and didn’t bother to explain. It was much like him.

“Kiro, please elaborate.” His name rolled off her tongue as if she had been calling him by his first name for the longest time. Kiro raised his eyebrows.

“I like how you say my name,” he said as he moved closer to Emma. She quickly pressed her palms against his chest to stop him from coming any closer to her. They had an important discussion to have and she knew that if he was too close to her, she would easily lose her train of thought. He was such a distracting man.

“Did you tell your parents last night that you wanted to marry me?” she asked him.
