Chapter 23

Emma

Emma felt nervous as she waited in the palace dining room with Kiro. He had asked her to have dinner with him and his parents. Emma wore a long yellow dress and tied her hair up. She wanted to look as presentable as possible in front of his parents. She wanted them to have a good impression of her.

When the king and the queen entered the dining room, Kiro and Emma rose to their feet. Kiro’s parents looked at Emma with questioning looks on their faces. She smiled and bowed her head to them in response. Emma and Kiro sat down after the king and the queen had sat down.

Emma’s first thoughts on Kiro’s parents were that they were intimidating. His father was tall and he had an average-sized body. He had a lot of grey in his hair. He looked quite stern. The queen looked elegant. She had beautiful silky skin and hair.

“Who is this young lady?” Kiro’s father asked his son.

“This is Emma; my woman,” Kiro replied. Emma’s eyes widened. Hearing him introduce her as his woman made her so happy.

“What? You brought her into my home?” the queen spat out.

“With everything that is going on, it is hardly the time to introduce her,” said the king.

“This is the perfect time,” said Kiro.

“I don’t want to listen to it. Get her out of my home right now,” said the queen. Emma looked at Kiro. She hadn’t even said anything yet and his mother already wanted her gone. Kiro held her hand and gave her a reassuring look.

“A while ago, a couple of men tried to abduct me in Dallas,” said Kiro. His mother gasped and covered her mouth with her hand.

“Kiro,” his father warned. They had agreed not to tell her.

“The abduction would have been successful if it hadn’t been for Emma. She was the one who called the police and then blocked the exit with her carto prevent them from taking me away.”

“What?” his parents spat out in unison. They both looked at Emma and then at Kiro.

“Why didn’t you tell me about the abduction?” his mother asked him.

“I didn’t want you to worry,” Kiro replied.

“I told you that one bodyguard wasn’t enough. Sometimes you are just too stubborn.” Tears welled up in his mother’s eyes.

“You were right and I should have listened.”

“Why did you help my son? Were your intentions pure?” the king asked Emma.

“I didn’t think the situation through. I just reacted. I saw the men trying to take him away and so I did what I thought was best,” Emma replied.

“You knew that you would gain a lot from saving the crown prince of El Sourial.”

“No, sir. I would have done the same thing had it been anyone else.”

“I bought her a new car to replace her damaged one but she refused the new car,” Kiro explained. He turned his attention to his mother. “Just this morning, more men came after me and once again Emma saved my life.”

“Oh God.” The queen looked as though she was going to faint. “These people came after you again? This is absolutely ridiculous.”

“We caught one of the men and brought him in. We know who was behind the attacks.”

“Who?”

“The king of Al Habuara.”

“What?” the queen spat out angrily.

“I am trying to say that in both situations Emma has been by my side. I’ve never met a woman that fearless,” said Kiro.
