Chapter 22

Kiro

On Monday morning, Kiro and Emma headed into Besada Oils headquarters in El Sourial. Kiro had a meeting to attend. He had asked Emma to come with him for a business meetingbut the truth was that he wanted to show her where he was from and to spend more time with her.

When they walked into the conference room, everyone rose to their feet and bowed their heads at Kiro. He was meeting with engineers, geologists and rig managers.

“Good morning, everyone,” Kiro greeted them. He walked in with so much confidence. He had such a commanding, stern presence. He sat down at the head of the table. Emma sat down in the seat to his right.

The meeting commenced moments later. It was just a short meeting for the staff to update him on the company progress. Kiro looked at the reports. He nodded. He listened to his staff’s reports.

“Where are we going now?” Emma asked Kiro when the meeting had finished and they were in the car.

“I would like to show you El Sourial City,” He replied.

“We don’t have other meetings? Was that the only meeting for the day?”

“We have no other business to attend to,” said Kiro. Emma raised an eyebrow.

“What was my purpose here? Surely you didn’t need me.”

Kiro flashed a cheeky grin. “I do need you but not for business purposes,” he said.

“Then for which purposes?” Emma questioned. They turned into a quiet one-way street.

“I just wanted you to be here with me,” he replied. Emma’s face immediately lit up. Just before she could respond, a van ran into the car in front of theirs. Their car immediately came to a halt.

“What’s going on?” Emma asked as she looked forward. They saw six masked men coming out of the van. They opened the doors of the car in front of them. There were two of Kiro’s bodyguards in that car. The masked men pulled them out of the car and a fight immediately broke out.

“It’s an ambush!” Kiro’s driver cried out. He couldn’t reverse the car because there was another car behind them. Four men rushed towards the car that Kiro and Emma were in while the other two fought Kiro’s bodyguards.

“Oh my gosh!” Emma cried out. Her eyes widened.

“It’s okay. I won’t let anything happen to you.” Kiro kissed Emma. He opened his door. “Lock the doors behind me!” he instructed his driver. He had a feeling that the same person that had tried to have him kidnapped in Dallas had sent these men after him. Kiro was determined to catch one of these men with his own bare hands. He also wanted to protect Emma. If he was out of the car, they had no reason to open the car and attack Emma.

Two of Kiro’s other bodyguards came out of the car behind Kiro’s car and immediately rushed to Kiro’s aid.

“It’s him!” one of the masked men shouted in Arabic. Kiro took his suit jacket off and threw it on the ground. Two men rushed towards him and started fighting with him. Fortunately, Kiro had taken mixed martial arts classes when he was younger, so he was able to block some of their punches and kicks. He was able to keep up with two of the masked men that were fighting him.

Suddenly the car window rolled down and Emma popped her head out. She started throwing her shoes at one of the men fighting Kiro. It caused a distraction and Kiro was able to capitalize on her interruption. He body slammed one of the men into the ground.

“Abort!” one of the masked men shouted in Arabic. The masked men retreated to their van. Kiro grabbed the man that he had body slammed into the ground. He was not going to allow him to get away. The man tried to fight Kiro off but Kiro was much stronger.

The tires screeched as they drove off. Kiro looked at the man that he had pinned down and pulled his mask off. It wasn’t anyone that he knew.

“Take this man into custody,” Kiro said to his bodyguards.

“Yes sheikh,” one of the bodyguards answered.

Emma opened the door and got out of the car. She jumped into Kiro’s arms. She wrapped her arms around him tightly. “Are you okay?” she asked.

“I’m fine.” Kiro kissed her. He put her down on the ground and held her by the shoulders. “I told you to stay in the car,” he said. He couldn’t believe that she had popped her head out of the window and started throwing things at the masked men. What if one of them had caught her and harmed her?

“Then you should have stayed with me,” she said. Kiro raised his eyebrows. “How could you just get out of the car when there are people after your life? Something could have happened to you.”

“Nothing happened to me,” he said to her. He pulled her into his arms and kissed her. It was now obvious to him that she would always risk her life to save him. She cared about him much more than any other woman had ever done in his life.

Kiro held Emma’s face in his palms and searched for her eyes. “I love you,” he said to her.
