“Hello,” Kiro greeted her as he sat down at the table.

“It’s nice to meet you your highness,” Zara said to Kiro. She was tall and had a slender figure. She was quite beautiful. She wore a royal purple dress and no jewelry. She was quite poised. He could see why his mother wanted her for him.

“Since you don’t come home often, I figured that it was imperative that Zara met you today,” said his mother. Kiro wasn’t pleased. He had come to dinner with the aim of discussing Emma and now it seemed like he was not going to be able to do that.

“I see,” said Kiro.

“Her majesty told me that you are living and working in Dallas. What is it like over there?” Zara said to him.

“It’s fine,” Kiro replied.

“Forgive my son; he has never been much of a talker. He takes after his father,” the queen said with a smile. Zara returned her smile and nodded.

As dinner progressed, Kiro didn’t speak much. Zara probably thought that he was rude but that’s how he was. He was not much of a talker. He also didn’t want to speak to her. Her conversation wasn’t interesting. She wasn’t as animated and intriguing as Emma.

Kiro hadn’t been too sure about his feelings for Emma or how he was going to bring her up to his parents. However, after that dinner it was pretty clear to him. If he was going to get married, he was going to do it on his terms. It had to be with someone that he could have a great conversation with. It had to be with someone that was as humble, fearless, intriguing and amusing as Emma was.

All the women that his mother had ever introduced him to were too prim and proper. They were boring and easy to forget. When Emma and Kiro got caught up in the rain, she took her shoes off and ran to the house barefoot. He never forgot how she took his hand and just ran. Had it been one of those women his mother brought his way, they would have never taken their shoes off. And they definitely would have complained about getting wet. Emma responded to the rain with giggles.

“Kiro,” the queen breathed.

“Yes, Mother,” he replied.

“Is there something on your mind? Your mother has been talking to you,” said the king.

“Excuse me.”

“Would it be alright if you and Zara had lunch tomorrow? The two of you need to spend some time together and get to know each other without us interfering,” said his mother. Zara smiled at Kiro. She clearly was happy about his mother’s suggestion.

“I have a woman,” Kiro spat out.
