Chapter 21

Kiro

“What do you mean by that?” his mother asked him. His father stared at him with confusion written all over his face.

“I mean that I have a woman that I wish to marry,” Kiro replied.

“You do?” his father asked with his eyebrows raised. His mother touched Zara’s arm.

“I am sorry about this,” she said to her. She called one of the maids into the room and told her to have a car take Zara back home.

“Thank you for inviting me. I had a wonderful time,” Zara said as she rose to her feet. She bowed to them before she left the room.

“Tell me clearly. You have a woman that you want to marry?” his mother asked him once Zara had left the room.

“Yes I do,” he replied.

“Since when?”

“I was actually going to tell you tonight.”

“Which family is she from?”

“Does that matter?”

“Yes, it matters a lot. She needs to be from a reputable family.”

“This is astonishing. You were so against the idea of marriage,” said the king. It was true. Kiro didn’t want to get married. He was only entertaining the idea because he was the crown prince of El Sourial. He was going to need to have a queen and an heir when he inherited the throne.

“I was against the idea of marriage. However, if I am to marry, I would rather it was my choice,” he said. His mother laughed sarcastically.

“Is she pregnant?” his mother asked.

“No, she isn’t.”

“Then why do you want to marry her? You can’t tell me that it is because you suddenly fell in love.”

Love; he hadn’t thought about that. Was he in love with Emma? he asked himself.

“She is American,” he said.

“Ha! Over my dead body,” said his mother. The king looked at Kiro as though he had said the most stupid thing in the world.

“You want the future queen of El Sourial to not even be an El Sourialian?” his father asked.

“Would that be so bad?” Kiro asked.

“It’s atrocious. There is absolutely no way that I will allow you to marry a Western woman.” The queen rose to her feet. “I will start preparing the wedding for you and Zara.” She bowed to the king before she left the room.

“Zara is a smart and graceful woman with an impeccable background. That is the woman that you will marry. End of discussion.” The king rose to his feet. Kiro immediately rose to his feet also and bowed his head to his father as the king headed out of the dining room.

Kiro had not thought things through. He wasn’t even sure if he loved Emma. He just said that he wanted to marry her as soon as the thought had crossed his mind. He hadn’t even discussed marriage with Emma. If she knew that he wanted to marry her and that his parents were against the idea, she would probably back off and let him marry someone else if she thought that was what was best for him. Emma had a good heart. She was used to caring for others and putting them first before herself. That was one of the things that made her such an amazing woman.

Emma

Emma was woken up by a maid early the next morning. She told Emma that Kiro wanted to take her riding. The maid gave Emma riding clothes before she left. Emma woke up and got dressed in the riding clothes. She wore khaki trousers and a white blouse. She wore her own boots. She headed out of the guest room and found Kiro waiting for her outside.
