“It was founded in 1901 by King Sameer Besada of El Sourial and it has been one of the biggest oil companies in the world since then.” Emma rattled on about the company. She had done a lot of research. As she spoke, the sheikh leaned back in his chair and studied her. He was quite attractive in a way that made Emma slightly nervous. He had dark eyebrows that complemented his almond skin tone. He had a straight nose and medium-sized lips. He had a three-day-old stubble and silky jet-black hair that was neatly cut and styled.

“This position is for a part-time receptionist from Monday to Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. On some occasions you might need to work a Saturday. Will you be able to manage your studies?” the sheikh asked her.

“Yes.” Emma nodded. “The hours are reasonable and I definitely will be able to manage. I can balance both work and university.”

The sheikh asked a few more questions. Emma did her best to answer him without showing how nervous she was. She hoped that he was not upset about her spilling coffee on his shirt. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking because he kept an expressionless face. His face gave nothing away.

At the end of the interview, they both rose to their feet. The sheikh extended his hand for a handshake. “Thank you for coming, Miss Grey,” he said. Emma wondered if that meant thanks for coming but we will not be hiring you or if he was glad that she came and he was going to hire her. As she extended her hand to shake his, she knocked over the pen holder and all the pens and pencils fell on the desk.

“Oh no!” she gasped. She quickly picked up the pen holder and put it back upright. “I am sorry,” she added.

“Don’t worry about it,” he replied. Emma was now more embarrassed than earlier. Why did she have to be so clumsy. She picked up the pens and put them back in the holder. She extended her hand to him, this time without knocking anything over. The sheikh shook it.

“Thank you for having me,” she said before she rushed out of the office with red cheeks. She was convinced that she hadn’t left a good impression on him.
