“Stay still!” he shouted at her. Before he could put her in the van, the sound of sirens filled the air. “It’s the police. What shall we do?” he asked the driver.

“We don’t have time. Let’s just go,” the driver replied. The man carrying Emma threw her on the ground and ran off.

The others also got out of the van and ran off. Emma was on the ground breathing heavily. She felt so relieved. If the police had been a minute or two late, she and Kiro would have been taken away.

Emma rose to her feet and helped Kiro out of the van. She ungagged him.

“Are you okay?” Emma asked him.

“Are you crazy?” he asked her.

“What? I just did what anyone else would do.”

“Who would do that?”

The police cars drove into the parking garage. The police officers got out of the car and approached Emma and Kiro.

“Oh thank goodness,” Emma said to them. Their timing had been impeccable. Had they been a minute late, she would have been in the van. The ambulance arrived a few seconds after the police cars.

“Are you okay, miss?” one of the police officers asked Emma. The other one attended to Kiro.

“I’m fine,” she said.

The two policer officers took Emma’s and Kiro’s statements. The paramedics went to attend to Kiro’s bodyguard. After Emma was finished giving her statement, one of the police officers offered to take her home.

“It’s fine. I’ll be okay,” she said. She searched the parking garage for her keys. Fortunately it didn’t take long to find them. She got into her damaged car and started the engine. It was going to cost her a fortune to repair. She was grateful that it was still working. The police still followed her to make sure that she was fine.

Emma thanked the police when she arrived home. Madison had just arrived at Emma’s house also.

“What the heck happened to your car?” she cried out as she got out of her own car. Emma studied the damage to her car before she replied.

“A van ran into it,” she replied. Madison’s eyes widened.

“What? Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. Let’s go inside. I’ll tell you everything.”

Emma unlocked the front door and walked in. “Mom!” she called out.

“When I left town, your family was still there,” said Madison.

“Good because I don’t want them to know what happened today.”

“What happened?”

Emma explained the entire situation to Madison. Her friend was so shocked. Her eyes suddenly teared up.

“Don’t cry, I’m fine,” Emma said to her.

“You are lucky to be fine. Something could have gone wrong,” she replied.

“I know but I wasn’t thinking. I just saw him getting kidnapped and I knew that I had to do something.”

“You did not have to do something.”

Emma shrugged her shoulders. “I was sure that anyone would have done the same,” she said. Madison narrowed her gaze at her.

“No one would have done that. They would have just called the police and maybe taken down the license plate. You didn’t have to risk your life to save his.”
