Chapter 6

Kiro

“When did you arrive in Dallas?” Kiro said to Raphael as he walked into his office. Raphael smiled as he joined Kiro at his desk.

“Just last night,” Raphael replied. He was related to Kiro on his mother’s side. The two of them had always been close growing up.

“How was Mexico?”

“Good.” Raphael smiled as he sank into the chair and crossed his arms over his chest.

“I take it there was a woman with you.” Kiro shook his head. Raphael laughed.

“When was the last time you were with one?”

“It hasn’t been that long.” Kiro narrowed his gaze at Raphael.

“I hear that you are getting married soon.”

“What?” Kiro raised an eyebrow.

“Our mothers are busy finding a suitable bride for you,” Raphael replied. Kiro grunted and rubbed the temples of his head. “Now my mother is thinking that I should be married also,” he added. Kiro burst into laughter.

“Is that so?” Kiro asked.

“I don’t want to get married, not now and not ever.”

“You understand that your mother will not let this go.”

“She says she wants grandchildren. If that is the case, then I don’t mind finding a woman to have children with. I just don’t have to marry the woman.”

Kiro raised his eyebrows. “If it only were that simple,” he said. There was a knock on the door. Dania walked into the room with a tray of refreshments. She placed it on the desk. She bowed her head before she left the room.

“You have a new receptionist,” Raphael said as he picked up a glass of drink. He took a sip. “She’s interesting one,” he added. The phone rang. Kiro picked it up.

“Hello,” he said.

“Hi, it’s Emma from reception.”

Kiro raised his eyebrows at the odd coincidence. Raphael had just mentioned her name, and then she called him.

“Yes?” he replied.

“I have a Sheikh Salem on the phone.”

Kiro grunted. “Take a message,” he said to her.

“Okay, I will do. Bye.”

Kiro remembered her saying “Have a good shift.” She was quite an odd woman. He had never been able to understand Western women. They were quite different to Arabic women. Kiro sighed as he put the phone down.

“It was Emma,” Kiro said to Raphael. “She’s not interesting, she talks too much and she is clumsy.” He picked up his glass from the tray and took a sip.

“Did she do anything clumsy in your presence?” Raphael asked. Kiro waved his hand to dismiss the topic.

“How’s Saba?” he asked. Saba was Raphael’s younger sister.

“I haven’t spoken to her since I left for Mexico.”
