I got home and went to my room looking through my closet. I didn’t want to wear a dress or skirt because that would scream easy. I wanted to look cute but comfortable. I decided on a pair of leggings under a long stretchy blouse that came to mid-thigh. It flattered my larger figure, and it was comfortable. I walked into my bathroom and took a quick shower, washing and drying my hair. I brushed it out and left it down. Sitting at my vanity I applied just a little makeup. My bruises were almost gone so it didn’t take much. I glanced at the clock, and it was a quarter til six. I knew Remy would be showing up soon. I hoped my brother didn’t give him too hard a time. I heard a knock on the door, and I opened my bedroom door T-shirt.

“I’m here to take Dawn to the clubhouse to watch a movie. Is Gears home, I’d like to speak with him?” Remy said as he noticed me. His gaze swept up and down my body and he smiled then pulled a rose from behind his back. “For you, Cher.”

I blushed and walked over to accept the offering. Sophie looked at us and smiled at me.

“My husband is in his office; I’ll go get him.” Sophie walked over and his door opened. He looked up at Remy and then noticed the rose in my hand.

“What’s this?” Gears said as he stepped in front of me. I gasped at his audacity and moved around him. “Why are you here Cajun?”

“I’m here to take your sister on a date. I wanted to be a gentleman and ask your permission to court her.” Remy said as he looked my brother in the eye. I bit my lip and looked at Austin who was clearly wrestling with what to say.

“That’s very sweet, but as I am twenty-three years old, I believe I can choose who I date.” I said as I walked over and slipped my arm through Remy’s. “Isn’t that right Austin?”

My brother looked at me and then at Remy. I saw something pass between them. Sophie put her arm around his waist and squeezed.

“Enjoy the movie, Dawn.” Sophie said as she walked us to the door. I’m sure she was going to enjoy having time alone with her husband.

We started walking toward the clubhouse when Remy stopped and looked at me.

“I’m not afraid of your brother Dawn, but I would prefer he not hate me.” Remy said as we started walking again. “You look beautiful.”

“Um, thank you and he won’t hate you. He’s just overprotective and it’s worse after the abduction. I’m never going to heal if he doesn’t let me live my life.” I said as I looked at him. “I wanted to come and spend time getting to know you. That should be our choice not his.”

“You’re right.” He placed his palm on my lower back and led me up the stairs to the front door then opened it for me. Therewas a spread on the coffee table with all kinds of finger foods and an ice bucket with some sodas inside.

“This looks yummy, thank you.” I said as I looked around me. I usually sat with my feet propped up on the coffee table, so I was unsure of what to do to get comfortable. Finally, I grabbed a pillow and dropped it between the couch and coffee table and sat on it. He laughed and joined me. “What are we watching?”

“Well, I wasn’t sure what you liked so I thought you could pick?” he suggested as he opened a soda for me.

“How about Fast and Furious?” I suggested. I figured he would like the cars and action, while I would enjoy the hot guys. Remy shrugged and put it on. The lights were dimmed so we sat back against the couch and snacked while watching the movie. When we were done eating, we pushed the table up a little. Remy put his arm around me, and I scooted closer to him where my body was pressing into his side. I was very aware of him, so close to me. He smelled really good. I had curled my knees up to my chest. I glanced at him, and he was looking at me. I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean this counted as a date since we couldn’t leave the property, or at least I can’t.

“Do you need anything?” he asked me, whispering in my ear. I got goosebumps up and down my arms. I looked at his lips and shook my head no. He leaned in and pressed his lips to mine gently. It was nice. He sat back and winked at me. I knew my face was red as a beet. Thank God it was dark in the room except for the light from the tv. When the movie ended, he got up and helped me up. Flipping on the light before turning off the television.

“Do you need some help cleaning this up?” I asked him as I looked at our plates on the coffee table. I started to pick one up when he gently pulled me away.

“I got this baby. Let’s get you home before Gears heads over here with his favorite knife.” Remy chuckled as he led me to thedoor. “I’m glad you came over. Hopefully I’ll be able to take you on a real date in the near future.”

“I think this was a real date. We spent time together, ate dinner and watched a movie. You even gave me a kiss.” I whispered as I looked down at my feet. “It was nice.”

“Nice, huh.” He made a face and sighed grabbing his heart in a mocking gesture making me laugh. “Kiss of death, I’ll have to do better next time.”

I pushed him as I laughed and walked toward my brother’s house. “You know what I meant.”

He caught up to me and took my hand. We walked together and I suddenly felt like I was being watched. Looking across the property to Doc’s house I thought I saw a curtain close. That was ridiculous, he didn’t care what I did so why would he be watching? Remy stopped in front of the door and put his arms around me gently pulling me in for a hug. He gave me time to pull away, but it felt good to be in his arms. So far, he had not hit any triggers.

“Can I have your number?” he asked softly as he released me and glanced at the door. I handed him my phone to put his number in and he called himself so he could save mine. “Thanks baby, now I’m going to let you go inside so I can get home in one piece. I had a good time.”

“I did too. Thank you for being patient with me.” I stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the cheek. He was so handsome. He didn’t give me the same butterflies that Doc does but I do like him. “Goodnight.”

I opened the door and went inside, closing it behind me. I turned and almost jumped out of my skin. Austin was sitting at the kitchen table working on his laptop. He looked up at me, assessing my mood. I smiled at him and gave him a hug.

“Thank you for letting me go and not giving him a hard time. He was a perfect gentleman.” I told him with a smile as I got a bottle of water from the fridge. “I’m going to bed. I love you.”

“I love you too, baby sister. I’m glad he was respectful.” Austin looked back down at his laptop, so I figured he was working. I headed to my room and lay on my bed pulling a pillow to me. Tonight was a new start for me. I would enjoy the attention Remy was giving me and try not to think about the man that had stolen my heart years ago. It was time to move on.
