I could tell that my words hurt him.

I've struck a nerve.

He grabbed me by the hand and pulled me toward him, lifted my chin and forced me to look him in the eye. “Your kid? You don’t want a criminal to father our kid?” He dared me to repeat my words.

“No!” I shouted at him.

“You will marry this criminal,” he commanded.

“What the hell? Is this some kind of sick joke? I will not marry you,” I said, struggling against his hold.

“It's not your call anymore,” he said with such boldness and certainty, “because, unlike Trevor White, I actually know how to kill a man and not get caught. Besides, I know exactly how to destroy your father's business, and I can do it any time I want to.”

Bastard! He just threatened my whole family.

He let go of me and added: “I'd reconsider if I were you. Go along with it and everything will be fine. Decline and… well, believe me, you don't want to decline.”

I stood there speechless and looked at him with utter contempt.

Chapter 10 - Nikolai

The music blared in my ears, creating an electrifying atmosphere as I sat opposite my older brother Maksim, along with Savic, my cousin Daniil and one of the other guys from his team. Drinks were scattered around our table.

Our luxury club was one of our favorite places to let off steam and indulge in the finer things in life as we saw fit. Maksim, Daniil, and I were giants who looked alike and always attracted attention in one way or another.

Daniil recently flew in from Europe for a short visit. He has had a blast in Russia and Bulgaria, has a strong organization and was well respected. A ruthless man by nature, but around family he was light-hearted, teased us a lot and loved to have a good laugh. With his dark, wavy hair, light brown eyes, and designer stubble, he caught the attention of all women in this club tonight.

Normally we would all have picked our ladies by now and let them grind on our laps, but not tonight. Tonight was supposed to be a catch-up meeting, and especially since Maksim was now a married man, we respected that. Although I was quite sure Daniil would end up with one of the ladies later. But I couldn’t find any interest in any of the women who had passed by our VIP area several times.

“Can I interest you in the usual, moy gospodin?[gentleman]”

Our table fell silent as one of my regular girls came over and knelt at my feet. She was the daughter of a prominent family, a runaway who wanted to experience life on her own terms and so decided to work at the famous Bratva club. Sexy, dirty; she was always up for a fun night. Considering her background, she was also cultured and sophisticated. She had become one of my favorites in no time. But at the moment, she wasn't at all what I wanted.

“Not tonight. Go,” I growled at her and waved a hand dismissively.

When I thought of a good fuck, only one face came to mind. The perfect little ‘O‘s’ she had made with her mouth after I had poured my seed into her, the way she clung to me and the softness of her breasts, all of these had become precious memories that my cock wanted to relive again and again. She was so fucking beautiful.

Ashley filled my mind. It was more than the obligation I had to fulfill to her now. I wanted her, I wanted to marry her, to have her beside me, to satisfy me whenever I wanted and needed her.

Maksim chuckled and his voice snapped me out of my thoughts: “So you really want to marry the daughter of old Saint Jonathan?”

When I shrugged my shoulders, Daniil sheeplishly smirked, with an annoying teasing gleam in his eye. “Well, well, well, who'd have thought it. The eternal batchelor, Nik, getting married.”

I took a sip of my drink to hide my conflicting emotions, met his gaze and sighed. “You know me, always up for a challenge.”

Daniil's laughter bounced across the table. “I would say. But we must admit that this marriage, surprising as it may be, will be of great benefit to the Bratva.”

Maksim and Savic both raised their eyebrows, and the question on their faces mirrored mine.

Daniil leaned back in his chair. “Well, the Brooke family has a good reputation in high society. Think about it. If Nik marries Jonathan's only heir, their power and influence, all their connections would belong to us!”

“Fuck, yes! I was too shocked by the news to think about its usefulness.” Maksim’s loud laughter irritated me.

In truth, I hadn't considered this aspect either, my mind too consumed by my raging desire for Ashley. But Daniil's words hit the mark. The Brookes were undeniably a powerful family. The two projects Jonathan was working on were sure to be successful and promise high profits.

My older brother slapped me on the back, his voice full of approval. “You’ve done well, Nik! We could strengthen our position and expand our influence. Jonathan has one foot in the grave already, so it could be very soon!” he joked.

The conversation continued and I grinned at Maksim when he mentioned Jonathan’s probable irritation at the situation.
