“I don’t care what Jonathan thinks. After all, I slept with her, and she carries my seed.”

“Of all the women to stick your cock in and not pull out, though.” Maksim said with amusement.

The table erupted in laughter at my expense and the further our conversation went, the more intense the jibes became. They made jokes about me getting Ashley pregnant, their words irritating and frustrating me.

And when the guy Daniil brought with him chimes in, I take it all out on him.

“Damn, I can’t blame Nik ... I saw her at an event not too long ago. I know I wouldn’t be pulling out if I could have her for a night.”

“What the fuck did you just say?” My pupils shrank to tiny red dots as I turned my head in the direction of the voice.

Everyone fell silent. Daniil turned to the man with a disappointed look. Savic looked uncomfortable, and Maksim had an unreadable look in his eyes, rubbing his nose and cocking his head to the side to let the guy talk. This guy wasn’t even Daniil’s sidekick. I had no idea why he was there.

“I mean, come on, Nik, everyone thinks that. The female Jonathan is smoking hot, anyone would fuck her if they got the chance,” the drunk guy continued with a wry grin on his face.

“I’m going to fucking kill you.”

I jumped up from my seat and grabbed him by the neck in a millisecond.

“Hey, hey, hey!” Daniil and Savic were up and between us before I had the satisfying chance to yank his head to the side.

“Nik, the man is drunk. Let him go. Come on.” My cousin finally managed to pry my hands off the man’s neck, leaving him coughing and wriggling in his chair.

“Say you're sorry, you bastard. Why the hell would you say that about his soon-to-be wife, you fucking idiot?” Daniil smacked him on the head.

“I’m sorry, Nik. The b-beer...” the guy was struggling to speak.

I didn’t give a damn. The wanker could have died before my eyes after saying that about my woman and I would have danced on his grave.

“Get him out of my sight before I kill him, Daniil,” I growled as I sat back down and did my best to keep my anger in check.

My eyes narrowed and my tone was serious and firm. “I don’t give a shit what you think of Jonathan. Ashley is my woman from now on and I will not tolerate any filthy talk about her, do you understand?”

I shouted. “Watch your fucking mouths how you talk about her!”

Silence fell upon us, the playful banter from earlier completely vanished as they absorbed my words.

As Daniil and Savic dragged the guy away, I looked at Maksim and he nodded quietly. “I would have done the same, brother. You must defend your woman’s honor. Speaking of which, I need to get home to my wife.” He winked at me, we clapped each other on the shoulders, and he left. I could tell what he was thinking. The depth of my connection to Ashley was greater than I wanted to admit. I've never been so possessive of any woman. The feelings that welled up inside me when it came to Ashley were complex–a mixture of confusion, attraction, and a deep desire to protect her.

When Daniil and Savic returned, my anger from earlier was still boiling. I quickly downed my drink, the fiery liquid burning in my throat as I tried to calm my thoughts. Suddenly, a familiar face caught my attention as it made its way through the club.

Trevor White.

As soon as Savic spotted him, he smiled mischievously at me and gestured with his head in the direction of the bar. I knew he would have my back if I needed him. I grinned at my friend and strode confidently toward Trevor and took a seat next to him at the bar.

We exchanged pleasantries, but I could sense the tension and wariness between us. Trevor eyed me suspiciously and scanned the bar for any exits.

I had to chuckle inwardly. Unfortunately for him, I knew what he'd done, and tonight I wasn't going to let him escape the consequences so easily.

I soon had enough of the casual conversation and leaned closer, taking care to speak in a low, measured tone.

“You know, Trevor, it was a surprise to see you here tonight. I thought you would have had the decency to stay away from places in business with your enemy.”

His eyes darted nervously, but he tried to maintain his composure. “What are you talking about, Wolkov? When have you and I ever been enemies? What is this?”

I raised an eyebrow and a knowing smile played around my lips. “You and me? Please, you wouldn’t last a second against me and you know it.”

My smile grew wider as I twirled the glass in my hand. “You know Jonathan owns a quarter of this bar, right?”
