“Yeah, sure.” Tori’s heart pattered. What was going on? She held still again, glad that Miranda hadn’t let go of her hand. Having her there to root her to her spot kept her grounded, and it was exactly what she needed in that moment.

“Tori…” Miranda paused, the air between them filling with a tension that Tori didn’t want to name. The spark of excitement was back, the anticipation and arousal she’d wanted to keep nestled inside her was threatening to burst out.

Why did this feel so monumental?

“Miranda,” she finally said, breaking the tension. It was so uncomfortable that she could barely stand it. “Why can’t I see you?”

“Shhh,” Miranda shushed her. Her fingers flitted across Tori’s lips. “I need you to hear me.”

“Okay.” Tori grinned. “I’ll try my best.”

“I know that.” Miranda’s fingers were back at her lips, trailing lines down her neck to the top of her shirt. She let out a little whimper, a moan perhaps, before scraping her nail lightly against the top of Tori’s breasts. “This is sexy.”

Tori’s heart leaped. Her breath caught in her throat, and she struggled to make words, especially after being told to shut up. “Aili picked it out. She said I needed something special and sexy for tonight. We’re not going to shag out here, are we?”

Miranda let out a low seductive chuckle. “No, definitely not. Not tonight anyway.”

“Pity. Tomorrow?” Tori tilted her chin, trying to follow where Miranda’s mouth was. Maybe she could snag a kiss at least.

“When summer hits.” Miranda’s fingers were back at her lips again. “It’s your birthday tomorrow.”

“See? Tomorrow would be a perfect day to shag out here.”

Miranda laughed, the trill filling Tori with joy. “You’re distracting me.”

“I think I’m supposed to feel bad about that, but I don’t.” Tori’s eyes crinkled as her lips turned upward. “What’s this secret everyone’s keeping from me?”

Miranda pressed a kiss to Tori’s cheek, then her other one. “Nothing is a secret. Don’t you know that secrets are bad.”

Miranda had been the one to have that conversation with Harley. That had been what Harley was talking about, what Siena would fill her in on later. They were all in on this. The knowledge sunk into the pit of her belly, which lightened and fluttered. She moved toward Miranda, seeking her out and reaching for her. “You planned this.”

“Of course.” Miranda pecked her nose with a kiss. “Who else?”

“I thought Siena and Aili, but then again, I also thought this wasn’t their style.” Tori wetted her lips. What was really going on?

“This one is all me.” Miranda leaned in close, her breath on Tori’s ear and down her neck. Was that her tongue dashing out for a taste? Or was that too much to hope for? Siena did say Harley would stay for this portion. God, please say Harley wasn’t looking at them.

Shivers of hope through her when Miranda’s mouth definitely pressed against her neck, just under her ear, and when Miranda nipped her earlobe? Tori’s knees buckled. Oh what she would give to have her way with Miranda right now. She hummed in pleasure, reaching out to grip Miranda’s waist and hold on lest she fall. “If you don’t get on with it, I’m going to make you scream right here and right now.”

“I wouldn’t do that, Tori. We’re not exactly alone.” Miranda bit her ear again, this time flicking the tip of her tongue against her earlobe, just like she’d done to Tori’s clit last week.

“Fuck,” Tori whined.

“Right.” Miranda scraped her teeth down Tori’s neck to her shoulder. Her hands were warm against Tori’s back and side, her breath spreading hotly down the front of Tori’s shirt and over her breasts to harden her nipples.

“Don’t do that if we’re not alone,” Tori pleaded.

Miranda chuckled, full pleasure in that laugh as if she had gotten exactly what she wanted. “When I met you, I didn’t want to like you. You picked up Rebel in the grocery store like you knew exactly what to do, and I was left sputtering. I didn’t even know how to get her to eat.”

“You were new to this. I wasn’t.”

Miranda wrapped her arm around Tori’s back and tugged her in close. “You embarrassed me by my inability, but you didn’t make me feel like an idiot.”

“Is that a compliment?”

“Shut up, Tori.”

“Aye, aye, captain.” They were clearly back to that first command, though Tori wasn’t sure she could listen now. Her entire body thrummed with arousal, telling her to push Miranda to touch her any way possible.
