The next morning, when Maya woke up, she heard her mother and Pammi aunty having a big gossip in the living room.

“Good morning pretty women. What’s up?” she asked lazily.

Pammi showed her the newspaper.

“You are again on the front page.”

“What?” Maya snatched the paper. It was her picture with Ranveer while they entered the party venue. The media never failed to surprise her at her worst moments. That article questioned her identity and even matched her image with the one clicked by some freelancer reporter when she stepped out of Paradise Apartment, fully drenched and helpless few days ago.

“Damn.”

Garima sighed.

“Don’t let it get on your nerves. People write what they want to see, and I don’t find it wrong. You and Ranveer are seeing each other. You both cannot avoid all this attention,” Garima explained.

Now her mother was talking exactly like Ranveer Malhotra. He had also stated the same point earlier. Being captured together was not something he can keep strict control of.

“I was also linked with your father like that. I was all over newspapers,” Garima sighed.

Maya frowned.

“And you know exactly what happened after that,” she interrupted. “You were left alone, Mom. He didn’t accept you or the relationship you both had. Forget that, he didn’t even accept his own blood, me. No one pinpointed at him, but you had to suffer alone only because the world knew you were dating him and even carrying his child.”

Garima got tears in her eyes. Maya realized she spoke too much, but it was necessary. She had to show her mother the mirror before she crossed some more lines. She kneeled down before her mother on the couch.

“I am sure you don’t want something like that happening to me. That’s why I don’t want to be linked to someone to this extent.”

Maya had a point. Garima wiped her tears and cupped Maya’s face.

“Not every man is a coward like your father. Ranveer is not like him. I don’t know why, Maya, but I always get positive vibes seeing him with you. It’s like an intuition that he will never leave you midway.”

Maya exhaled. She had no clue how her mother could think so positively about Ranveer Malhotra. Maybe because she had no clue how much ill he could do or had already done to them.

The doorbell rang. Maya mended her mood and got up.

“I will open.”

Garima and Pammi kept the newspaper aside, waiting to see who had arrived so early in the morning. Maya opened the door and, to her surprise, found the man himself standing before her. Every time they talked about him or she thought about him, he was there.

The moment Ranveer saw Maya, it was on his face that he liked seeing her in the silky nightdress. With her dark hair cascaded messily over her shoulders, Ranveer was even more mesmerized. His gaze traveled slowly over her, desire stirring inside him.

“Hi,” he managed to say, his voice sounding husky even to his own ears.

Maya shifted uneasily under his bold appraisal, which only made Ranveer want her more. He imagined peeling that nightdress off, caressing her soft skin underneath.

“Ranveer?” Garima screamed from behind. “We were just talking about you. Come inside. Maya, move.”

He forced himself to focus as Garima welcomed him inside. Maya then realized she had been blocking his way, she gave him a side, and he walked in.

“Please sit, how was the party?” Garima asked.

“Not so good,” he replied. “Your daughter left me alone there.”

Maya locked the door and got back in.

“What made you come here early morning?” Maya came straight to the point.
