Dhruv grinned.
“I happened to tell him about your secret affair,” he whispered only for Ranveer to hear.
Ranveer knew Dhruv couldn't keep things to himself at times, and he was glad that his father would now have proof of his seriousness about a woman. Ranveer held Maya’s hand and led her to his father, Dev Malik.
“Ranveer, my son,” Dev Malik turned around to meet them. Ranveer passed a quick hug to him. There was no smile on his face, Maya noticed. He was just going through the motions.
As soon as Dev Malik took his eyes off Ranveer and saw Maya, he became speechless. Meeting this man didn't catch Maya off guard, but she wasn't ready to respond to the questions she knew would soon arise.
“She is Maya Bajaj,” Ranveer introduced without breaking his gaze from his father’s eyes.
Dev Malik was astounded, shocked, and a little scared to see Maya with Ranveer.
“Is this some kind of joke?” he snapped.
Ranveer’s mouth twitched with a smile. Dev Malik suddenly realized the mistake he was going to make by showing any obvious reactions to seeing Maya Bajaj. So, he decided to take back his words.
“I mean, Ranveer and with a woman? So openly in a party? That’s strange. Anything serious?”
“I don’t know,” Ranveer pretended to smile, glancing at Maya once. “We’ll see.”
“Hello, Ranveer,” came another familiar manly voice towards them, which pricked Maya. She didn’t turn around but waited for the man to come forward and get his part of the shock too.
“Kunal,” Ranveer shook hands the moment Kunal Malik reached them. “How you doing?”
“Great,” Kunal replied and then glanced at Maya. He was equally shocked and nervous to see her.
“You?” he snapped in rage.
Before Kunal could say anything further, Dev Malik touched his son’s arm and introduced.
“She is Ranveer’s girl.”
That rendered Kunal speechless. He looked at his father first, and the two exchanged some quick muted eye-to-eye talk. A suspicious smile appeared on Kunal’s face as he smiled back at Maya wickedly.
“Excuse me. I need to use the washroom,” Maya managed to speak in a low voice.
Ranveer hadn’t expected her to move out amidst their heated introductions, but he still gave her time.
“Sure. Come back soon,” he said, entwining their fingers and kissing her wrist. Her eyes shot fire at him for this unnecessary gesture. But she knew this was all part of the contract she had signed with him. She shrugged his arm and walked hurriedly to the ladies' room.
“Enjoy the party, Ranveer,” Kunal said, patting his shoulder. Ranveer waved off Kunal’s arm.
“I will.”
He made his way through the crowd, speaking to some known people around. Kunal stared at his father.
“What the hell just happened, Dad?”
“Ssh,” Dev silenced him. “We will find out.”
“What is Maya doing with him? If Ranveer finds out we had tried to get him out of our way, he will kill us before we can even think of escaping.”
“Will you just be quiet for now?” Dev shouted. “I said, we will find out.”
Kunal walked away; he couldn't take that advice from his father and rely on things to get better. He would talk to Maya and get this information himself. If she posed any danger to them, she would be crossed out forever.
