Ranveer smirked; that was his motive after all. “I will.”

He waited for Dhruv to get inside the elevator. Dhruv waved a quick goodbye, and as soon as the elevator doors shut, Ranveer put on the same serious look before striding inside.

“He is gone,” he informed Maya, who had been pacing around the room, hoping to leave sooner. She looked nervous. If she was already so scared of acting as his girlfriend without meeting his family, what would happen when she actually met them?

“I need to leave,” she said, gripping her purse.

Ranveer escorted her out. Laura handed Maya her car keys, which one of his men had parked here. He observed Maya fiddling with the car keys and her mobile phone. Was she genuinely scared, or was she faking it to garner sympathy?

“Aman will get in touch with you tomorrow with the contract and your agenda for the day after tomorrow.”

“What's happening the day after tomorrow?” she asked.

“A party. My so-called father's 50th birthday. That's when our deal will actually begin,” Ranveer explained.

Maya acknowledged it and got into the elevator. She really hoped whatever she had gotten into wouldn't change her life from this point forward.

************

The place was crowded with rich and classy people. The music should have soothed her, but it had started annoying her, considering the fake smiles and greetings these people were giving each other. It was such a fake world. People were flaunting their money, jewels, and lavish costumes. Amidst all of this, she finally saw the man who had invited her to this luxurious party. Ranveer Malhotra came forward in his black Tuxedo and grabbed her by the waist. She hadn't expected him to do so and before she could react, he leaned into her ear and whispered.

“Welcome to hell, Maya Bajaj.”

Maya woke up with a jolt. It was a dream. A scary one. She looked around; it was 07:00 a.m. Just the previous night, she had been to paradise when he had enlightened her with the proposal. She couldn't believe she had agreed to it.

When she came out, she found her mother sitting on the couch with Pammi aunty, having tea.

“Good morning, little girl,” they both wished her.

“Morning,” she replied, joining them. “This came for you this morning,” Garima forwarded her an envelope.

Maya felt a twinge of fear. Could it be the contract? She opened the envelope, and indeed, it was the same.

“Some office paperwork,” she said, clearing her throat. “I will check this and be right back.”

She headed inside, locked the room and read the agreement carefully. He had mentioned all the terms very accurately, taking into consideration her demands too.

After spending another tiring day at work, Maya waited for Aman Mathur outside Blitz Office to hand him the contract papers.

“Sorry to keep you waiting, Ma’am.” Aman said reaching her.

Maya raised her brows.

“You called me by my name, Aman. What happened suddenly?”

Aman smiled, clearing his throat.

“I am aware of this contract between you and Boss, so obviously, I should be addressing you formally now.”

“It's not needed,” she declared. “What is my next agenda?”

“You have to attend Ranveer’s father’s birthday party tomorrow. I will send a car to pick you up from your house at sharp 08:00 p.m.”

“Okay.”

“Great. Ranveer will brief you on what you need to do there while he drives you to the party.”

Maya nodded. So, he would be there when she drove to the party. That was even more scary. The next day, the media would get the first glimpse of them together, and they would start linking them. But considering their different backgrounds and class, she really hoped the media wouldn’t directly link them as dating each other.
