Before Ranveer could say anything or Maya could make him leave, Garima pressed her forehead in pain.

“Mom, what happened? Are you okay? Mom?” Maya screamed.

“I think she is feeling weak. We need to put her to bed,” Ranveer suggested coming forward.

Maya didn’t ignore his advice. She didn’t care who was suggesting her that as her mother’s health was her priority than anything else. Pammi rushed inside to make Garima’s bed ready. Maya was unable to lead Garima alone. Before she could struggle more, Ranveer Malhotra came to her rescue. He held the other hand of Garima, and they both together led her inside. They put her to bed; she was conscious though, just weak. Maya passed some water for her to drink.

“Mom. Should I call the Doctor?” she asked.

“No. I am fine. I don’t know what has happened between you two but don’t fight. Please,” she pleaded.

Maya gulped. How could she tell her mother that she and Ranveer Malhotra were not dating? Would she be able to take it? A simple situation got her weak; would she be able to absorb this truth? Garima made Maya sit next to her on the bed.

“I have lived my entire life without your father beside me. I don’t want to see you living the same. Sort out whatever issues you both have. Please. It’s my only request.”

Maya's eyes became moist. She knew that all this was leading her to fall into Ranveer Malhotra’s trap, and this was exactly what he wanted.

Chapter 12

Maya felt the urge to tell her mother that she and Ranveer had nothing between them to call an affair. However, she hesitated, anticipating the barrage of questions her mother would have. Who is Ranveer Malhotra? Why is he interfering in their life? If her mother senses any threat from him, it might be detrimental to her health. Maya decided not to take such a drastic step.

“Maya, I am talking to you,” Garima shook her. “Tell me you will clear off the issues between you and him.”

Maya grabbed her mother’s hand and nodded. “We will. Now rest. I will drop him till the door and be right back.”

“But he can have dinner with us.”

“Not now, Mom. Please,” she pleaded with her mother not to put her in a more uncomfortable situation. Garima agreed.

“Ranveer,” Garima then stared at him. “Don’t mind my daughter’s temper. But she is a gem from inside.”

Ranveer glanced back at Maya, who was trying to hide her anger.

“Mom, rest,” she muttered angrily, pulling the duvet over her mother and walking out.

“And stubborn too,” Garima whispered softly, looking at Ranveer again.

Ranveer Malhotra smirked.

“Don’t worry. That’s why I have chosen her,” he replied.

Garima and Pammi smiled at him as he followed Maya out.

“He seems to be a nice man,” Garima said to Pammi. “And so handsome. Did you see the way he was admiring Maya? There is so much rawness in that look, as if he cannot let her out of his sight.”

Pammi sensed the excitement in Garima’s talks. She sat on the bed with her.

“Garima, the last time I saw you so attentive to a man’s desires was when you dated Vivek.”

Garima’s cheeks turned pink. She still loved that man.

“Yes, Pammi. I want to speak to Vivek. Can you get my phone?”

“Now?” she asked. “If Maya gets to know, she might not like it.”

“Please, Pammi. I really need to hear his voice. He will be happy to know I am back from the hospital.”

Pammi was skeptical if Vivek Bajaj would really bother about this. He had always been a carefree man. If he truly loved Garima or his daughter, he would never have left them stranded. But she couldn't take the risk of denying Garima at this point. Even a little stress could be dangerous for her.
