Garima nodded, and Maya gave up too.

“Okay. In that case, I will pay a visit to the store and get the veggies for tomorrow. I suppose some basic groceries are over. I will take the car and will be back in some time.”

“Fine. come soon.”

“Take care, Mom,” Maya said to Garima, who was totally engrossed in loving the flowers which Maya’s father sent for her. Maya shook her head in dismay and left out.

When she returned back home in an hour, she stumbled at the door seeing Ranveer Malhotra sitting inside on the couch, talking to her mother and Pammi aunty. What was he doing here?

“Maya, look who is home,” Pammi happily announced.

Maya faked a smile to her and then gave a grim look to Ranveer, whose smirk proved he was here to mess some more.

“Maya, I am so sorry baby. Come here,” Garima tried getting up but Maya dropped the shopping bags aside and reached her mother before she could hurt herself by falling down. She was still very weak to walk on her own.

Once she was settled again on the couch, Maya sat beside her. “What are you sorry for?” she asked.

“For hurting you. I should have known that you walked that ramp for a good cause. Thank your boyfriend for telling me that and making me understand you did this for him. To save his reputation, Blitz’s dignity and the jobs of your other models. It’s such a big thing and I simply shouted at you.”

Maya was totally confused now. Why did Ranveer explain all that to her mother? How did it bother him? Or was this his new trick?

“Mom, it's okay. It is still my mistake. I shouldn’t have hidden it from you.”

“Oh, my baby,” Garima hugged Maya. “It’s fine. I was just afraid for you.”

Ranveer Malhotra was enjoying this free drama between the mother-daughter when Pammi intervened.

“Ranveer, you are such a gentleman. I am sure you couldn’t see Maya’s pain and hence you came here to settle this distance between her and Garima,” Pammi stated.

Ranveer looked back into Maya’s eyes.

“That’s right. I am here to bridge the distance.”

Maya gulped hard. It was hard to read his mind. He revealed half-truth to her mother. He didn’t tell her that they were not dating, neither did he confess to her that it is he who had tricked her into that auction once which was why she left her modeling career.

“Okay then, I will take your leave.” Ranveer Malhotra got up.

Garima quickly interrupted.

“You cannot leave without having dinner with us.”

“Mom,” Maya poked. “He should really leave.”

Garima looked nervously at Maya and then at Pammi, who gestured her that something was wrong between the two. Ranveer clenched his jaw at Maya’s audacity.

“But Maya, he is our guest and,” Pammi tried to intervene.

“Aunty...” Maya swallowed. “He has a few important meetings lined up. He cannot wait,” she lied.

“Meetings? Now?” Garima asked.

“Video conferences. He takes them from home. He should go,” she snapped. “Thank you for coming and clearing my mother’s doubts,” she said, looking at Ranveer. “I would have done that though. Your intervention was unnecessary.”

Ranveer’s nostrils flared. She really knew how to piss him off. Garima got up.

“Maya, what is this? Have you two fought with each other?” Garima asked worryingly.

“Mom, I will explain to you later.”
