The door knocked.
“Come in. The door is open,” he shouted.
Maya stepped inside. She had just returned, finishing the event. She looked deeply tired and exhausted.
“Get inside. You are one hour early. That makes me realize how desperate you are to save your mother from falling sicker,” Ranveer remarked.
Maya kept her bag aside. This was supposed to be her room, but this man here had conquered it ever since he started stalking her. It didn’t look like her territory anymore.
“Drink?” he offered, but she denied.
“I am not here to share a drink with you, neither to accept your cheap proposals. I am leaving back to India tonight,” she checked her watch. “I have my flight early morning.”
Ranveer gritted his teeth. Maya passed a sarcastic smile to him.
“Didn’t expect this from me, did you?” she asked. “Only by manipulating people’s weaknesses, you cannot win every time, Mr. Malhotra.”
“You know the consequences of this, Maya,” he tried to warn her again.
“I know, but I don’t care. You cannot brainwash my mother. And regarding this ramp walk secret, I will tell her myself when I reach home in the morning. I will make her understand that the person who was responsible for me leaving my modeling career is the reason why I walked the ramp again. Because I wanted to save my show, my company, my models from his famous wrath. And I am sure she will understand. You have broken me once, not again.”
She headed to the closet and took out her clothes, started dumping them in her bag.
“You are making a mistake,” he tried to threaten her again.
“Maybe yes, I am making a mistake by risking my mother’s health, but that is far better than letting me and her become your puppets. I won’t let that happen.”
After packing her bags, she exited the room. Ranveer clenched the glass in his hand so tightly that it shattered. Blood seeped from his palm and trickled down his wrist. She did the unimaginable today, something he never thought she was capable of doing. He had carefully measured all his moves, and even then, today, for the first time, a woman like her made him lose. But for how long? It was easy to say she could fight back against his every move, but in reality, fate played the major role, and Ranveer Malhotra wrote his own fate. So, what if she left without accepting his proposal, within the next 24 hours, he swore to make her come back to him again.
Chapter 10
Delhi Airport
Maya’s flight landed at Delhi International Airport. It was 08:00 a.m. in India. She would have reached a few hours earlier, but her flight got delayed by three hours last night. She tried contacting her mother once before boarding, but she didn’t answer. Probably, she was sleeping at that time. She switched on her mobile phone and was startled to see ten missed calls from Pammi aunty. Why would Pammi aunty call her so many times? She was probably in the flight when these calls hit her phone. She felt a sense of distress thinking about the possibilities and dialed back to Pammi aunty.
“Maya, where are you? I called you so many times.”
Her fearful tone was enough for Maya to read the trouble.
“What happened? Is Mom okay?”
“She got a panic attack last night. She is admitted to city hospital.”
“What?” Maya dragged her bags speedily towards the cab stand. “How? She was all fine in the evening when I talked to her.”
“I don’t know, Maya. I am myself worried. Please come soon here.”
“I am on my way to the hospital. Please tell me she is doing fine now.”
“The doctors are treating her. She is unconscious now.”
Maya’s eyes swelled with tears. She hired a cab and directed him to City Hospital.
City Hospital
Maya barged into the room where her mother was admitted. She froze on the spot, seeing Ranveer Malhotra standing next to her mother's bed, talking to the doctor. What was he doing here? He was in Hong Kong. When did he come back? He turned around, sensing her presence, and after giving her a quick glance, he looked back at the doctor and shook hands.
“Money is not an issue, Doctor. Mrs. Bajaj should recover soon,” he exclaimed.
