Ranveer’s gaze met hers. She could read his state of mind. He hated being stopped from doing his most favorite thing of the day. He was addicted to her, not very different from her state.

“You don’t look very optimistic this morning,” he teased.

She pulled away from him and knotted her hair into a ponytail.

“Stop reading my thoughts all the time. I feel conscious,” she mumbled.

“That will stop only when my heart stops beating,” he countered, a smirk playing on his lips.

It annoyed her.

“Okay,” he mouthed sexily, watching her tie her hair. “I know why your mood is off.”

Maya sighed.

“Mother-in-law’s marriage plans have made you restless.”

Maya nodded.

“I want her to be happy, Ranveer. If this is what gives her joy, I will not stop her. But I don’t trust that man.”

“Don’t trust him, not until you feel like. Everything has its right time. Have patience.”

How easily he sorted out her worries. Maya snuggled closer to him.

“Maybe you are right. These days I am running out of patience,” she pouted, raising her head.

“And I am running out of love,” he teased. “I am not getting that in abundance these days.”

She laughed.

“It’s so hard to satiate you,” Maya whispered lazily, pressing a kiss on his jaw. After teasing each other with love for the next few minutes, Ranveer held her close to inform her of some news.

“I have news for you,” he said. “Vivek Bajaj called me up this morning. He said Adira has agreed to the marriage.”

Shock silenced Maya.

“He wanted to know your approval to take this forward,” Ranveer added.

“She agreed? So easily? Isn’t that… a bit… suspicious?”

“It is,” he replied. “But I will have my men keep an eye on her.”

“God,” Maya groaned. “How much will you stress yourself in handling my family issues? My past?”

“It’s better than having a future without you. It freaks me out,” he said hoarsely. “If Vivek Bajaj is responsible for your family problems, I am responsible for your crooked past.”

Once more, she met his gaze, sensing the weight of his hesitation. The remorse for undermining her confidence on the ramp was evident in his expression. It seemed that he would never shake off the burden of that mistake from his conscience.

Maya palmed his cheek, giving him a reassuring smile.

“Whatever profession I am in today, I love it. I have no regrets, neither do I desire to walk the ramp again,” she reassured him.

Ranveer reached for her hand and kissed her palm, which had been caressing his cheek a second ago.

“I didn’t give you a choice then. But now I do. If you ever wish to continue modeling, you are free to do so. I am always going to support you no matter what you choose.”

The thought made her queasy.
