“I know that,” Garima proudly smiled at Ranveer and then faced Maya again. “But what I also know is that you don’t like Vivek, neither trust him as your father because he never took up that role. If I marry him now, none of our daughters would be at peace.”

Maya sighed. This was totally true.

“But you love him, Mumma.”

“And I always will. But my love was never selfish. Neither then, nor now. I will not marry him if you and Adira are against it,” Garima insisted.

Maya rolled her eyes.

“Even if I agree, Adira wouldn’t. That girl cannot tolerate us,” Maya added.

She glanced at Ranveer to know what he thinks about it.

“Wouldn’t you say something?” she asked.

“This is solely my mother-in-law’s decision. And whatever she is thinking is right. I am with her. Until you and Adira both share the same views as them, I don’t think marriage is a good choice at this point in time,” he replied.

Maya smiled back at him as he continued.

“But let me put it this way,” he leaned back on his chair. “You will always be under my scrutiny, Mother-in-law. It’s not that I don’t believe Mr. Bajaj would take good care of you. But you mean something to Maya and me, and we will always be worried about you. Don’t snatch that right from us.”

Garima got emotional. She knew Ranveer and Maya would always be her well-wishers, and it is because of that love that she doesn’t want to betray them and accept Vivek Bajaj’s marriage proposal. Until she has the consent of all her babies, she wouldn’t take that crucial step.

Adira was shocked when her father told her about his plans for marriage. It was just morning when he decided to wake her up with these unexpected plans.

“Adira, don’t be mad at me. I know I have failed as a good husband and a father, but this time I want to set things right. My marriage to your mother was as per my family’s choice. I don’t regret it, but Garima was always my first love. Your mother knew it. She knew it all along, and she had accepted that truth. I gave her all the love she deserved, and when you came into this world, I shared the same with you. But… Garima and Maya. I… I have always neglected them. I don’t wish to die with this regret, Adira. Please understand, baby.”

Adira gritted her teeth.

“Garima will love you like she loves Maya. She is a good woman. Please give her a chance.”

Adira was quiet. First love. Yeah. She knew what that meant. How hard it was to forget your first love. She pushed away the duvet from her body and got out of bed.

“Fine,” she muttered, faking calm on her face.

Vivek was flabbergasted. Did he really hear that?

“When is the marriage?” she asked.

“We have your approval for it?” Vivek reconfirmed.

Adira turned back.

“Do I have a choice, Dad?” she snapped but then tried to calm down. “I mean… I have seen you yearning for that woman, meeting her secretly. It is better you guys stay under the same roof. I don’t mind.”

Vivek was thrilled by her reply.

“Oh Adira,” he hugged her. “I love you so much, baby. I promise things will be fine from now on. We all will stay like a happy family. Always.”

Adira clenched her jaw. Happy Family! Yeah. Only time would prove what kind of family they would be. When Vivek left her room, Adira walked to her closet and slid it open. She unlocked the secret drawer and removed the gun hidden inside – the one which she had been given a few days back. Seemed like she could put this to better use. She had to put an end to this mother-daughter chapter forever. Enough of hide and seek.

“Stop,” Maya interjected, placing her palms between their bodies, over his chest. Her husband had woken her up with soft kisses, a usual routine these days.
