Garima nodded. Her sickness hadn’t allowed her to cook much, and Maya had been under a lot of pressure during those times to do everything by herself.

“So? All sorted?” Garima asked.

Maya was startled at her mother’s question. “Why did you ask that?”

“Mothers are very good at reading their children’s hearts. I knew something was bothering you and Ranveer last evening. You were craving for his attention while he was trying hard not to give you one,” Garima said.

Maya bit her lip. Her mother was a genius at analyzing all this. “Yes, but we sorted it out. And it was totally my fault.”

“Doesn’t matter whose fault it was. Sorting it out at the right time means the most,” Garima replied, passing her a bright smile.

“What are you cooking?” Maya asked.

“Idli Sambar.”

“Yummy. Ranveer loves it,” Maya remarked.

“I know. His grandmother told me. So, I thought of making it for him. Where is he, by the way? Woke up or still sleeping?” she asked.

“Getting ready for work.”

“Work? I thought you both would plan a honeymoon,” Garima said, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.

Maya blushed hard. She had that in mind too. But there were too many things to be looked after here before they could relax and spend quality time together.

“Where is Aisha? I didn’t see her this morning,” Garima continued to inquire.

Maya’s mind raced, searching for a reply. “She has…”

“Resigned,” Ranveer walked in at the right time to tackle the situation.

“Resigned?” Garima repeated. “But she was doing good and—”

“Mother-in-law, there have been a couple of incidents where she has missed doing her job to my perfection level. And you know I cannot take chances with Maya’s safety,” Ranveer explained.

Garima agreed. That was one quality she liked in her son-in-law.

“And Laura? What about her? Why is there a new woman instead of Laura at the lobby?” Garima asked.

Maya turned to Ranveer, who nodded, affirming that news. Maya wasn’t aware of Laura’s deeds. Last night, Ranveer couldn’t share it with her as they were busy fighting and then making love to each other as if it was their last day on earth.

“Laura was a traitor. She was with the Maliks and passing on information about here to them. So, she has been arrested,” Ranveer explained.

“Arrested? What did she do?” Garima innocently asked.

“Mumma,” Maya interrupted. “Leave that to Ranveer, he will handle it. You please focus on your health.”

“I am absolutely fine; nothing is wrong with me now. In fact, Pammi and I are taking Subhadraji for some ladies' day out,” Garima said.

“Cool,” Ranveer readily replied. The more these oldies spent time enjoying their normal lives, the more he and Maya could focus on the current issues.

“Which means,” Garima decided to tease, “you and your wife can have the whole house at your romantic disposal.”

Maya blushed again and looked at Ranveer, whose eyes immediately fixed onto her. He could never get enough of her, could he?

“Thank you, Mother-in-law,” Ranveer replied. “We will make the best use of it,” he winked.

Maya couldn’t take this anymore. “You two, when together, never fail to tease me. I am going for a shower,” she announced before slipping out of the room. Ranveer smiled at Garima and then followed his wife like a love-sick puppy.
