“Wrong hands?” Maya asked nervously.

“The Maliks,” he replied. “They have been trying to get this Will reversed for years. All this enmity between them and Ranveer is only because of this property. Once it is allocated to you, the Maliks will lose all their right to fight for that property because it will no longer be on their side. We all know Dev Malik is behind bars, and Kunal Malik has escalated his ways to bring him out. He can do anything to get things in his favor. I am sure you wouldn’t like Ranveer to lose what belongs to his mother.”

Maya understood his point.

“Fine. I will call Ranveer and inform him if you cannot wait until he comes back home,” she replied.

She reached for her phone and dialed Ranveer's number, but it wasn't reachable. Where on earth could he be? Why wasn't his number reachable? She had been trying his number for an hour, but she couldn’t reach him. She dialed Aman, but encountered the same issue. Could it be possible that the two were together? She hoped so. At least that would eliminate the possibility of Ranveer being in danger alone.

“Ma’am, please do not worry. After your signatures, you can send a copy of this to Malhotra office and get Sir aware of it too; just in case you don’t believe me,” Sinha suggested.

That seemed like a safe choice. She would sign the documents and send them personally to Ranveer’s office for him to read. That way, she would know she did the right thing. She swiftly went through the papers, trying to read the matter briefly. There was a long list of properties mentioned in them, which were now going to be transferred in her name. She didn’t want them, even though she was forced to accept them. Ranveer Malhotra was all she needed in her life, not his money, not his inherited wealth. After going through the documents once, she finally put her signatures on all the papers.

“I will send them to the Malhotra office, and Ranveer will let you know what to do next,” she informed Sinha.

“Sure,” he replied, and then left.

Maya enclosed the signed papers and asked Laura to ensure the envelope reached Ranveer’s hands and no one else's apart from him. She couldn't wait for him to come home to discuss it. What if, as Sinha said, every little delay in getting these papers into Ranveer’s hands costed him what belonged to his mother and was rightfully his?

Just when she thought it was over, a message from Dhruv’s number shook her up.

‘Kunal Bhai is falsely going to withdraw ten million dollars from Bro’s personal account. Please do something before it's too late. He is out already for the same work.’

Maya tensed. What on earth was Kunal plotting? Why was he resorting to these actions? It was evidently his way of seeking revenge because Ranveer had gotten Dev Malik arrested. He was attempting to trap Ranveer in some manner, and this was simply unacceptable. She tried calling Dhruv again, but he abruptly ended the call. Attempting once more, she encountered the same result. Why wasn't he responding now? That's when she received another message from him.

‘I am with Kunal Bhai. Cannot pick your call. I will ensure he doesn’t reach the bank to do the forgery, but you, meanwhile, transfer the money from Bro’s account to yours. That’s the only way.’

Seriously? That was a big decision. Maya was worried and confused about her next actions. Only when she really needed Ranveer to sort this mess, he was not around.

Chapter 58

Ranveer checked his phone as soon as the network became available. He had been out with Aman and a few other associates to scout for a site. Obviously, the remote location had no proper network connectivity. Only upon reaching the office did he regain network access on his phone, and the first thing he intended to do was to call his wife and check on her. He was about to dial her number when Aman knocked on his cabin door and entered inside, looking extremely worried as he handed over some papers to Ranveer.

Ranveer glanced over the legal documents.

“These arrived this morning from the lawyer, along with a request from the banker for your permission on the transfer. I assume you are aware of it,” Aman mentioned.

Ranveer clenched his jaw. “Who initiated the transfer request?” he asked, his tone sharp.

Aman swallowed hard, unsure of how Ranveer would react when he mentioned the name. “Maya,” he answered.

Ranveer's fists tightened. “That's impossible. She was at home when I left this morning.”

“Yes, but the bank confirmed it was her. Ranveer, she is Maya Malhotra—a familiar face because she's your wife. So, it's unlikely that someone else went to the bank and initiated this transfer request on her behalf with her correct signatures. It was her,” Aman explained.

Ranveer tossed the papers aside and immediately dialed home. Laura answered the intercom.

“Where is Maya, Laura?” Ranveer asked urgently.

“Sir,” Laura responded, instantly recognizing his voice. “Ma'am isn't at home. She went to Malik Villa.”

Ranveer felt an urge to punch the wall. “Who is driving her there?” he inquired further.

“She went alone. But since we have trackers in the car she's driving, I can tell you her current location,” Laura informed him.

Indeed, Ranveer had trackers installed in all his vehicles for safety, so that anyone from his family driving out could be easily tracked.

“Send me the logs of the tracker for today,” Ranveer instructed before disconnecting the call.
