Daadi pressed Maya’s hand.

“You are doing the right thing. No one should take relationships lightly. Give him a tough time, but don’t let it stretch for too long that it breaks forever.”

Maya was glad Daadi understood. She hugged the old lady, who hugged her back with the same affection.

“Ask your people to stop tracing my calls henceforth,” she demanded while brushing her hair. It was almost evening, the temperature was settling down and Daadi had promised to take them somewhere, both unaware of the place though.

Ranveer shut the laptop screen and gazed at her in the mirror where she had been struggling to get ready on time.

“That's for your own safety,” he said.

“Tracing my calls is intruding my privacy, Ranveer. You do that or-”

He got up making her pause. She stumbled back as he strode to her and pinned her to the mirror behind.

“Or what?” he asked in an ugly tone. “If you think you can blackmail me over the engagement then you are wrong.”

“So, it won't matter to you if we never get engaged?” she mocked.

She nodded his head in agreement but why was he grinning? She was confused.

“We will directly get married then,” he said. “Engagement or not, the marriage is inevitable, Maya. And if you don't agree to this or try fleeing, I will drag you to the wedding canopy and tie our knot. No external forces can do anything about it.”

Sweat beads formed on her forehead. This was scary. She cursed herself silently for poking him too much. He stepped back.

“I will ask Aman to stop tracing your phone calls but this won't stop me from guarding you.”

If he had to agree to her demands, why did he scare her? Couldn't he just agree at first place? At least she wouldn't have to skip a few heartbeats by his dangerous warning on their marriage talks. His fingers touched her smooth hair strands and he tucked behind her ears.

“You are mine, sweetheart and that's never going to change,” he said.

She bit back her embarrassment.

“I wonder what effect you had on boys when you were studying,” he added.

Now this came from nowhere.

“I am not done yet interrogating you, so your turn to ask questions comes after I finish.” She snapped and turning back to the mirror started brushing her hair again.

He kept staring at her.

“And I didn't have time to gauge what other men felt for me. I was too engrossed studying and then modelling.” She didn't know why she was answering his queries still. “I had no time for a boyfriend in my life.”

Ranveer smiled. The mere thought of some other man lurking around her to get her attention made him nauseous. She was innocent in all ways and a woman like her didn't deserve a demon like him. She must have her own fantasies of her man and he really wished to fulfill each one of those if she demanded someday.

The door knocked. It was open already and the manager got inside.

“Sir, Subhadraji is waiting for you both in the lobby,” he informed.

“We are coming,” Ranveer replied.

The manager left and Ranveer waited for Maya to pick her purse.

“You know where she is taking us?” Maya asked him.

“I wish it was that easy to know what all the women in my life think,” he sighed and walked out followed by Maya.
