I chuckled. “No. I stumbled after I pulled my pants up. My tender parts were protected by my jeans.”

“I can get you in shape for the wilderness?” he asked.

I grinned. “My hero. What are we doing for the afternoon?”

“I’d like to go over the proposals I prepared for the development meeting. I want you to be familiarized with the project.”

“Fine. Can I change first?” I asked.

“Be my guest.”

I unzipped the suitcase the bellhop had stacked on the bench at the end of the bed, pulling out my favorite pair of frayed jean shorts and a light blue tank top. Oliver watched me from the corner of his eye as I removed my dress. He stopped reading over his report when I was down to my lavender bra and panties.

He sighed loudly. “I love that color on you.”

I quirked an eyebrow. “Don’t you have work to do?”

“I can take a break.”

“Aren’t you getting changed?”

Oliver wore a full suit, dress shirt and tie on the plane but had only removed his jacket.

He leaned back in his chair. “In a minute. I rather like the view.”

I laughed. “You’re hopeless.”

“Hopelessly in love,” he murmured.

I dressed and when I was finished, Oliver changed. Just for good measure, I gazed at him as he stripped down to his boxers. The muscles in his back and arms rippled as he dug through his suitcase to select a pair of shorts and a polo shirt. A few minutes later, he was back at the dining table, and I was beside him.

Chapter 20

We worked all day, and by the time we took a break for dinner, my head was spinning with information. We had skipped lunch but munched on the complimentary fruit and snack basket provided by the hotel.

“I need to take a shower,” I announced, feeling the grime of the day.

“Now? I thought we would eat dinner first,” Oliver said, looking a bit surprised.

“I feel yucky,” I admitted.

Oliver smirked. “What exactly does yucky feel like?”

“If you must know, I got my period this morning,” I replied bluntly.

“Oh,” he responded, caught off guard.

“Is that all you can say?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“No, this isn’t my first time dealing with your period,” he said with a reassuring smile.

“So, I want to take a shower,” I insisted.

“Pick something for dinner and I’ll call it in while you’re taking one. We can eat when you come out,” he offered, handing me the tablet with the menu.

I searched through it, craving everything salty, fatty, and sugary thanks to my period. “I’ll have a cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate-covered strawberries,” I decided.

“Is that it?” he asked.
