Had he not once told her that he had been determined to show the world that he could make a woman happy even without giving her a child? This article was insinuating the contrary, but it was as if this hadn't even occurred to Lukas. All he cared about was her, and that could only mean one thing.

Lukas couldn't help feeling wary when his wife's face suddenly lit up. "Are you alright?" he asked seriously. Why did she now look so full of hope when this article had portrayed her as a scheming gold-digger?

"There's something I've always wanted to ask you, but I never got to," Betsy confessed, "because I was afraid of what you'd say."

Lukas frowned. "What is this about?"

"I wondered if you were ever in love with your ex or if you're still in love with her, and that's why—-"

The way his lip had already curled at the very idea had Betsy biting back a laugh. I'm sorry, God. I know this isn't something to laugh about, but he's just so...cute.

"I only meant to marry her because marriage was the ideal way for her family's company and mine to merge. That's it."

"Got it," Betsy was quick to affirm at the sound of contempt that laced her husband's tone, "and I promise we'll never talk about her again."

"You should know that she's likely to be the one behind this article. Lydia and her parents have not stopped spreading rumors about me ever since I canceled our wedding plans. And if it was only me they targeted, I would not have minded. But now that they're spreading lies about you—-"

"This will blow over if we simply ignore it," Betsy insisted.

Lukas' jaw clenched. "You're too damn nice."

Betsy had a hard time not smiling again. "That sounds like a complaint."

"It terrifies me."

She looked at him in surprise. "You're terrified that I'm too nice?"

"There might come a day when you realize that I'm not good enough for you." Just hearing himself say the words out loud had Lukas' chest tightening with pain. It was as if a part of him was ominously convinced that it was only a matter of time before he lost her and David.

"Oh, Lukas..."

His wife reached for his hands this time, and his chest tightened anew when she pressed her lips to his knuckles.

"I love you—-"

"No, Betsy. You only think you love me, and that's the truth."

"Or maybe it's the other way around, and—-" The rest of her words disappeared in his kiss, and even though Betsy knew by now that this was her husband's favorite way of stopping her from saying the words, it was also because she did love him that she couldn't help curling her arms around his neck as she kissed him back.

Lukas carried her to the couch, and Betsy soon found herself straddling his lap. The sound of clothes rustling and being unzipped followed, but her head was soon falling back as her husband slowly impaled her with his throbbing length.

I love you, I love you, I love you.

Her heart whispered the words over and over because that was all she could do for now.

I love you, I love you, I love you.

Her very soul cried the words out as their bodies rocked against each other in a dance as old as time, and it was still the words she wanted to sob out as she started to cum, and she felt Lukas following right behind her with a hoarse groan.

I love you. I love you. I love you.

She thought of the words as she fell asleep in his arms, and the words were still the first thing she thought of when she woke up and found herself on the couch and under the warmth of her husband's jacket.

She hugged it to her as she inhaled his scent.

I love you.

An idea popped into her head as she forced herself up, and she padded barefoot to her husband's desk. This seemed the perfect chance to leave secret messages all over his office, and just imagining how her husband would react already had her heart racing.
