And contrary to her fears of being rejected or regarded with disdain, everyone had instead been warm and welcoming, and they treated David like he was also their flesh and blood.
To help Betsy with her new role as his spouse, Lukas had also introduced her to his friend's wife Polly, and the two of them had become fast friends. And since Polly, like her, was quite the optimist, when the other woman declared it was only a matter of time before Greek society would embrace Betsy as one of them, she had happily believed it would be so.
And perhaps it could and should have been so, if not for a tabloid article once again turning her and Lukas into Athens' most controversial couple.
A source close to the former couple has finally spoken on the condition of anonymity. Tsaldaris had apparently been diagnosed with infertility, and the news had the billionaire suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts. His refusal to seek professional help eventually led to Rubio asking for time apart, which Tsaldaris consequently read as an act of betrayal.
Their unintended breakup is a decision both parties now regret, and our source firmly believes that the billionaire's recent marriage is no love match. "That woman's a gold-digger. She targeted him, plain and simple. She knew he was vulnerable, so she used her innocent son to tempt him with the promise of fatherhood.'

"This isn't your fault, Lukas." She meant every word, having now realized that the court of public opinion was a battleground that favored the rich and famous. Clearing up rumors - or inventing them in this case - was a matter of paying the right price, but such tactics held no appeal to Betsy at all.
Lukas couldn't tell if his wife was only hiding her hurt, but either way, it was his responsibility to protect her from such trash, and he had failed to do so.
"I'll have this article taken down immediately. You have my word—-"
"I'm honestly not affected," Betsy said soothingly. "So please don't bother yourself with this."
While she genuinely cared about whether people realized she didn't have her panties on her wedding day (that was a secret best kept between Betsy and her husband), what they spoke of her character was inconsequential.
But her husband, though...
Oh no.
Lukas started when his wife suddenly reached for his hand.
"Are you okay about this?" Betsy asked worriedly. "You told me before that you didn't want others to know—-" She broke off, having noticed the way her husband was staring at her in disbelief. "What?"
"Did you read the same article I did?" Lukas could not believe she was concerned for him when most of the lies in the article were about her.
Betsy's heart squeezed when she realized just how incensed her husband was on her behalf...to the point that he no longer cared about the things that used to matter to him.
