"Uh-oh. Someone's been bitten by the bug," Petey said with a knowing smile that left PK utterly confused.

He lifted up an eyebrow and asked, "The bug?"

"The love bug," Corey said from the other side of Petey. Corey had been Petey's best friend and road roommate since the two got drafted together.

As much as PK wanted to deny it, Cor was right. He had been bitten by the love bug, much like an ever-increasing number of the guys on the Sound. Corey, Petey, Scotty, Dykstman and Lager had all fallen hard for the loves of their lives. It was all true.

PK gripped his stick a little tighter and shrugged.

Petey said, "Oh look, he wants to be all coy about it."

"Shut it, you two," PK said as he hopped off the boards. He'd never been more grateful for a line change in his life. He could play it cool with either Petey or Corey, but the two fed off each other and it was harder to ignore.

PK skated towards his spot for the faceoff, and Scotty looked his way. Normally, Scotty did that whenever he wanted to set his own play, since he was feeling something.

Then Scotty paused. He must not have liked the look on PK's face because he skated towards him and said, "Whose ass do I need to kick and why?"

"Whoa." PK was surprised by that reaction from his captain. It seemed so extreme. "It's nothing like that, boss."

"You sure?" Scotty whispered, "You didn't tweak your knee, right?"

"No. I just got chirped by Corey and Petey. It's nothing," PK said, not wanting to admit everything about his love life to all the boys.

"Line up, already,” Dykstman yelled. “We don't have all day." He was clearly wanting to get the scrimmage going again and was tired of waiting for the chit chat to end. Scotty skated to the red dot and crouched down low with his stick held tight, ready for the puck drop.

The break ended when the puck was dropped. Scotty won the puck and sent it back to PK. PK skated quickly with the puck towards the offensive zone. He looked at the options since he never really liked carrying the puck. He was a defensive man, after all. But the best option was for him to continue carrying the puck down the ice.

As he approached the ice, his old partner came on the attack, so PK sent the puck back to Lager, who was in the right spot. Then Lager passed the biscuit to Scotty, who was in the high slot, aka his favorite spot to shoot pucks on net. Scotty fired off a huge clapper which went high and snuck by Smithy's glove, breaking the tie.

PK skated up to Scotty to give him a fist bump for the great goal. But before they could celebrate, Coach Berman blew the whistle several times and the guys started to clear the rink. A few guys stayed behind to work on some skills, including Petey, Corey, and Smithy. Normally, Scotty would be right there, but instead, he clapped PK's shoulder. "What did the Tweedles say to you that got you so riled up?"

PK chuckled at Scotty's nickname for Corey and Petey. It suited the two guys perfectly, except for the fact that both of them were quite smart most of the time. "They just called me out about my feelings for a girl back home. It's nothing."

"Nothing, my ass," Scotty said with a knowing smile. "I've never seen you hung up on a girl. Although, I can't figure it out—who's Nathan?"

"Our puppy," PK said with a smile. Although, at that moment, he thought more about Clarissa and her bright eyes.

"Ah. 'Cause I didn't think you went on the crazy sex train like Dykstman," Scotty said with a smile. Out of everyone on the team, Scotty knew how a puppy could make for a happy family. "I'm happy for you. I haven't seen you do that before."

PK nodded. He hadn't been in love before now, but he knew he had a real thing. He just knew he didn't want to screw things up.

Clarissa

It'd been a few days since PK left to play and train with his old team. While she missed him big time, things had been great thus far. He was like clockwork; he would call three times a day—a couple of times to check in and at least once a day to do phone sex over Facetime. She loved that nightly call and was waiting for tonight’s call.

She heard the tell-tale tones of a Facetime call and immediately grabbed her phone and grinned. There she saw her hockey stud with that smug look on his face that used to make her so pissed. Now, she realized he was just happy and probably thinking dirty thoughts about things he wanted to do to her body.

"Uh-oh. Don't tell me someone got a contract," she teased. From what she'd heard from him, he'd been playing out of his mind and it was just a matter of time before he got a real offer from the Sound. She wanted that for him and yet hated it so much.

He showed off his toothy grin. "Don't you know it, sweetheart."

She would have busted his chops for calling her sweetheart all the time if it wasn’t for the fact that it made her wet every time he said it.

As she digested what that meant for them, she felt gloomy. She was going to South America after the holidays, and he was going to be mostly in Cleveland. Hell, what was going to happen to their puppy? It wasn’t like they had any real inquiries about the lost pup.

The smug smirk on his face fell, and he leaned closer to the phone. "Hey, hey. Don't be so sad. This is a good thing."

"I know. I'm just worried about what it all means for all of us."
