Nathan hopped up onto her lap and started to sniff the phone, causing a chuckle to erupt from PK's lips which made her long for him so much.

"Hey, boy, calm down. You know who I am." But the laugh wasn't leaving PK's voice. Thankfully, Nathan settled down after a minute or two, but it was clear that he was still a little confused since he couldn't smell or touch PK but could hear him.

She hated how she wasn't happier for PK. This was everything that he wanted. He went crazy when he wasn't playing and drove her crazy as he tried to fill his day. "Seems like all your holiday dreams are coming true."

"Especially now that I’ve booked flights to Bourbon, Texas for Christmas." He got a sly smile out of her since she wanted to see him again. "There's that smile that I love so much."

His comment made her feel special. She teased, "So, you love making me smile."

"Don't you know it," he teased back. Over the past few weeks, she got to see how much he made her smile. "Besides, I know how hard it is to make you smile sometimes. Especially on the days that I piss the crap out of you."

She giggled. "That's true, there's some days that you just know how to annoy me."

"Pretty much anytime I try to play the drums."

His mention of the drums made her devastated for Alayna. He was supposed to play at the toy drive and was bound to have brought in lots of money and interest. Now that he was playing for the Sound, he was going to bail and the kids in need were going to be the ones who lost out. "Oh no, you're going to miss the toy drive."

"Don't worry. It's an off day. I'm going to fly in and out for the event. If it wasn't for Kai and his girl, I might think about cancelling since it's so much damn flying."

She felt so put out at sight of the first major red flag since they hooked up. While yes, it was a lot of flying, it wasn't like he was flying to Asia. It was only a couple of hours on a plane, like the day-long trips she'd been doing lately for her blog. If he wasn't going to fly a few hours to visit her while she was in Bourbon, there was no way he would want to meet up with her at one of her more exotic locations. She couldn't help thinking that he wasn't really ready for a relationship.

PK must have picked up on her concern since he jumped back into the conversation. "Don't worry, I'm flying out to see you too. You're the cherry on top of helping out my best bud." He winked at her. He was such a damn flirt, but at least he saved himself by saying that. "I love my cherries."

"Sweet talker," she said, but she was glad that he was so quick to reassure her.

"And you love it when I do that."

"I do," she said with a bit of self-hatred. She shouldn't be so easy to win over when he annoyed her. But she liked sharing her feelings with him and how she was getting closer to telling him she loved him.

"I love how I always know where I stand with you. Sure, it started with all the facial expressions telling me that I was hanging myself with my own rope. It's so nice that, lately, I get to see all the ways that I make you happy. It's so much better. Your face tells me everything, and it seems like it's impossible for you to keep how you feel a secret."

He was right. It was hard to hide her feelings, since they were always written all over her face. But that was something that he and her readers loved about her.

What PK didn't know was that she did have a secret she wasn't telling him. She was falling hard for him, which she knew was crazy because she spent more time separated from him than with him. But all their daily talks allowed her to be more connected to him, and they really opened up in their conversations. She was going to keep the words "I love you" to herself for a while yet.

So instead, she played it cool. "If you say so, babe."

"I do." Then they both let out a giant yawn at the same time. "Seems like we've had a few too many late nights. How about I let you go to bed and I’ll make it up to you tomorrow?"

"Sounds perfect."

Chapter 9

PK

Despite telling Clarissa he was going to bed, he went out with a few of the new guys in an effort to get to know them. He was more than a little hungover and woke up barely in time to catch the bus for their flight back to Cleveland.

Because he was hurting so much, his routine was thrown off. Not helping matters was the time. He resorted to throwing things into his suitcase without much care. He just barely had enough time to zip the bag to get downstairs. He just hoped he grabbed everything since he didn't have time to give the room his normal sweep for things left behind. He figured he would look for a couple of the most important items when he got onto the bus or the plane.

He went to his normal seat near the back of the bus, directly behind Scotty. Instead of sitting down, he patted his pockets trying to find his cell phone. As he realized it wasn't in his pocket and he only had his wallet, he said, "Shit, shit, shit."

Scotty turned in his seat and asked, "What's up, man?"

The bus pulled off, causing him to fall back into his seat. He said, "I can't find my cell phone."

"Do you need me to call it?" Scotty asked, but he was already lifting the phone to his ear before PK nodded. Scotty's lips pursed together to form a thin line as he shook his head in disappointment. "It went straight to voicemail."

PK tried to think of the last time he saw his phone, but he couldn't remember. The hangover wasn't helping matters, but through the haze, he was pretty sure he hadn't grabbed the phone in the morning. His only response was, "Fuck."
