“You?” Minx was one of the most powerful shifters I knew… “How is that even possible?”

She shrugged. “My dad is human, and maybe that slowed me down.”

Okay, completely not ready to agree that we might have a shared dad. Not the time to push the issue, Ava! With my early shifting, that was not something we shared in common, latency, but she’d sure left that status in the past!

Instead of pursuing, I asked her some questions about being a female with a harem and paid careful attention to her answers. Finally her mates showed up en masse to take her to dinner, and I went along, joining my roommates at their table in the dining hall with more interest in all the food for thought than actual food.

But when Lex brought me a plate of lasagna and salad, I ate it all. Stress eating? Maybe…or perhaps just all the exercise and the fact that it was tasty.

Chapter Sixteen

My mind wouldn’t shut off after my conversation with Minx. I spent the night tossing and turning and woke more tired than I went to bed. How I got through the day without a nap and somehow managed to be coherent in my classes? Not a clue.

She left no facet of her relationship hidden, since she said we females with harems had to stick together. Not that I had one…yet.

Minx loved her mates equally. They loved her just as much and, while they were still getting to know each other, since it was a fast mating, she knew that they were her fated mates. They would be together for the rest of their lives.

I’d had two coffees with my breakfast, and Nolan had somehow procured me an iced coffee from a fancy coffee shop to enjoy with my lunch. I asked how he made magic happen, but he said he needed to keep some things secret to keep the mystery alive.

I had a secret of my own and, while Wolfe already knew, the others didn’t.

Telling them was on the top of my list.

Despite the coffee overload, when I walked into the dining hall, I could barely make decisions. The boys were sitting at a table, our table, I now called it. Wolfe got up to stand with me in line, but I waved him off. Wolfe loved food almost as much as I did, and cold food wasn’t any fun.

Besides, just because I had mates didn’t mean anything would change. I could still get my own damned dinner, though I wouldn’t mind any of them being next to me.

Once I had my tray of food, I moved to the drink area and picked up a lemonade. The caffeine in the soda was beyond tempting, but only if I wanted another night of flailing, fitful sleep.

Seraphine filed in next to me, and I forced myself to breathe normally, even though my wolf let out a snarl at her nearness.

“I thought I was clear that we had a claim on Wolfe, Nolan, and Lex. Those three are ours.”

My wolf’s snarls grew louder, and she tried like hell to push the sounds out of me, warning this female to stop talking about the so-called claim she had on my men.

My men.

Yeah. They were mine.

“Have you told them?” I asked, slapping a hand over my sneer. Seraphine was so ridiculous, but I knew from firsthand experience she was dangerous when she wanted to be.

“You bitch!” I saw her arm move and I stepped back a bit, but what I didn’t expect was for Seraphine to flip my tray, making all my food go all over me.

And it was broccoli-cheddar soup day.

Perfect.

My animal pushed herself to the edge where my consciousness met hers and tried to break through the weak hold I had on her. Rage poured from her to me and back again. All chatter in the dining hall came to a halt, and everybody turned to see the drama.

“What the fuck is your problem?” My wolf spoke through me. That was new.

“You. You’re my problem. You come in here and think you can claim them as your own? All three of them?”

I laughed and wiped some soup from my face. “They’re not property, Seraphine. They are people. And they don’t belong to you.”

Must not have been what Seraphine wanted to hear because her hand rose to slap me. I fisted mine, already seeing the opportunity to knock her out before she could do more damage, when Lex ran over and mid-stride, shifted into his wolf.

Right there in the dining hall. Whoa!
