What kind of males were they that they weren’t rushing the “naked part”? “I am enjoying getting to know each of you, so I think it would be nice to go to dinner or ‘something.’” I was getting so wet down below with all the action my hand was getting, I feared I’d leave a spot on the chair. It was really hard to keep my thoughts straight with the two of them here in this quiet library.

“Then that is exactly what we will do.” Lex allowed me to tug my hand free. “Leave it to us to plan?”

“Okay.” My heart was pounding so hard, it felt like it might be dangerous. “I look forward to it.”

Chapter Fifteen

I happened to see Minx in the hallway after my last class of the day. She was actually without her mates for once, and I took advantage of that fact. “Minx, wait up!” I sped my steps to catch up to her. “Can I talk to you for a minute? I need some information.”

She did slow down, letting me come alongside her, but her words were anything but encouraging. “I don’t know anything. I’ve only been here a little longer than you.”

Puzzled for a moment, I tried to process what she was talking about. “I don’t—oh, you mean school stuff. No, my roommates have been really helpful in that department. In fact, it’s them I want to discuss.”

“Have they been misbehaving?” She planted a hand on her hip. “They need to give you time to adjust to all the changes of moving and everything before they swoop in.”

My cheeks were once again flaming. I’d never been much of a blusher before I arrived at the Werewolf Academy, but I was sure making up for lost time. “Maybe we could go up on the roof and talk, if you’re not too busy? I don’t have any girlfriends here, and I need to talk to someone.”

I could tell she was about to say no, but then she softened her tone. “I have about a half hour before I have to meet my mates. Let’s go up on the roof.”

“That would be great. I’ve been wanting to go there. It won’t be too crowded?”

“Shouldn’t be this close to dinner. If it is, we’ll go somewhere else.”

There wasn’t much talking in the elevator, but when the doors opened, my jaw dropped. “I knew there was an outdoor space, but I had no idea it would be like this.” A wide green swath occupied half of what I could see, with a path surrounding it where people could walk or run. There were spaces for different sports and a bunch of picnic tables where I supposed a class could be held or people could just eat or hang out. We weren’t alone, but only a few others were taking advantage of the relatively warm afternoon to walk the path or even lie on the grass.

“Wow, the famous roof!” I stepped out and inhaled a breath. “Is the air fresher up here?”

Minx smiled at me. She’d been so reserved, so disinterested in me, that when she relaxed enough to do that, it caught me off guard. My sister had a way of putting people at ease, and I’d seen her use it on others, but this was the first time she’d turned that expression on me. I just wanted to hug her, but I kept my hands at my sides, fisting and unfisting to keep from doing something that might make her regret coming up here to talk to me.

“Do you mind if we walk?” She turned onto the path before I answered. “I like to come up here and stretch my legs.”

I fell into step beside her. “No, that’s fine. Does anyone ever shift up here?” I thought Lex might have said so.

“Oh yeah. It’s rare not to see any wolves playing around. Now, what is the topic of conversation this afternoon?”

“Mates.”

She was walking more quickly than I’d expected, and I had to do the same or we’d never be able to talk. “What about mates?”

“How do you manage to have three mates and keep everyone happy? Is it hard?”

“It had better be.” She giggled. “Seriously, are you thinking of accepting those three cuties as your mates?”

“I don’t even know, but I have a feeling they might consider me their mate.”

“And what does your wolf say?”

We were walking so fast, we passed one of the exercisers, so I waited to answer until we had some space and privacy again before replying. “She is panting for them.”

Minx turned toward me and arched a brow. “Just panting?”

“She thinks they are our mates, too. But I never considered having more than one. That really isn’t done in the pack Mom was raised in. She gave me the impression it was something that hadn’t been happening in recent generations.”

Minx faced forward again and snorted. “Tell that to my mates…or those three who are panting after you. Sounds like a mutual panting to me.”

The sun hung low in the sky, casting the streets below us in shadow, but up here, we still had some light and warmth and that combined with the great gift of spending time with my half sister was priceless. Whether she was ready to accept me in that way yet or not, I’d gratefully accept whatever I could get. As we continued on the path around the grassy area, Minx’s speed decreased and her demeanor softened.

“I didn’t think I’d have three mates either. I was a latent, did you know that? My parents raised me to be human because they thought I’d never shift and would need to live in that world.”
