Mark grabs my hand and twirls me into him. He looks down at me. “I do believe the lady said something about a picture?”

“It’s over on her desk!” Trina says unhelpfully. I glare at her as Mark pulls me with him towards my desk. She grins at me as we pass. “It’s in the frame. The one by the cup of pens.”

Mark drops my hand and picks up the frame. “I remember this hike.” He looks over at me. “I can’t believe you’ve kept this picture all these years.”

“It’s one of my favorites.”

“Mine too. Could I get a copy of this?”

I nod. There’s a sentimentality that I haven’t seen in him before. I just sit and watch the rare moment.

“A double date?” Mark groans. “With who? You know I’m not the most comfortable around strangers.”

“My roommate and her boyfriend. You met them briefly when you came over? Amara and Duncan?”

“I guess that wouldn’t be too bad.”

“You can be pretty charming when you want to be.”

He sighs as he sits on the desk. “This is really important to you, isn’t it?”

I step closer and wrap my arms around his neck. “It really is.”

Grabbing my waist and pulling me in even closer, Mark rests our foreheads together. “Then let’s go.”

Honestly, I thought it was going to take a whole lot more persuading to get him to go along with the double date idea that Amara and I came up with last night after I got home. Up until I started spending time with Mark, she was the only roommate in a relationship, and Duncan’s best friend is never seen with the same girl twice.

I squeal, “Really?”

He gives me a partial grin. “Yes.” He buries his head in my neck. “As much as I’d like to keep you to myself.”

I giggle as he starts trailing kisses along my neck and throat.

“Stop it.” I give a halfhearted shove. “We’re going to get caught.”

He presses his lips to my ear. “I don’t care.”

Giving my lobe a little nibble, he starts kissing my neck again. If he wasn’t already holding my waist, my knees would completely buckle out from underneath me.

“Knock, knock.” The door opens and I can’t bounce back fast enough. I turn to face a thoroughly surprised Nancy. “Oh! I didn’t know you two were—”

I feel my blush down in the depth of my soul.

“Hi, Nancy,” Mark says in a voice that is completely unbothered by the fact that we were just caught making out in his office.

Nancy’s face breaks out into the biggest smile I have ever seen. “Hello. I have that file for you.” She hands Mark a folder then looks over to me. “Always nice to see you, Millie.”

Then she turns and leaves, closing the door behind her.

“You alright over there?” Mark asks, clearly fighting back a smile. I can’t look at him. I’m still so embarrassed about being caught by Nancy. “Mills?”

A twinge of worry laces his voice. I rub my hip after running into the corner of the desk. I plop into the chair.

“I’m fine.” I sheepishly peer up at him.

His face softens as he gets up and comes over to kneel in front of me. “You sure?”

I put my hands on his broad shoulders. “Yes, I’m sure.” I lean down and kiss his cheek. “Maybe no more making out in your office though.”
