Nope!

I need to move away from him. Put some distance between this all-too-attractive man and my olfactory system.

“So… ” I say looking at Mark not sure what else to say. “Hungry?” I basically yell it in his ear. He takes a step back. I internally groan. Why do I always have to be so awkward around him? “We have plenty of pizza and wings.”

Mark just nods as he looks down at me, searching my face for something. I feel each and every searing look deep in my soul. I let out a low breath. Oh, boy. I’m a goner.

“Sorry, everyone bailed. I swear we really were going to have a game and movie night.”

“It’s okay. You’re the one I came to see.”

My heart flutters at his words.

“We could still watch a movie or something. It’s the least I can do after inviting you over.”

“Are you trying to Netflix and chill me? Amelia, I’m shocked!”

My eyes go wide. “No!”

Mark smirks.

I shove him. “Jerk!”

My hand rumbles as he laughs because apparently when I shoved him I never removed my hand, and I’m all but groping his, what are those muscles called? Pectorals? Whatever they are called, they are firm.

And I’m still groping them.

I remove my hand sheepishly. “Sorry.”

“Don’t be.”

I don’t dare look into his face. Any more fluttering and I’m going to take flight. Or I’m going to die after my heart explodes out of my chest.

“Doesn’t matter to me what we do. Anything is better than that date.”

“It couldn’t have been that bad.”

“No, bad would have been an improvement. Let’s just say, there is a restaurant that I will not be showing my face in ever again.”

“Okay, now I need details.” I never thought I would be spending my evening having Mark act out his entire date. He even does different voices. This is a side of him that I have never seen before even in all the years that I’ve known him. He is so animated. I think it’s my favorite. I don’t want the night to end, but it’s getting late.

I’ll just not mention it until he does.

Mark looks down at his watch, “I didn’t realize it was so late.” He stands up and puts his hand out to pull me up. We stand there staring at each other. “We should do this again. Maybe actually watch that movie.”

There is a sexy gravelly tone to his voice. My breath catches. He’s standing so close I can hardly focus on words to formulate a sentence.

“That would be fun,” I finally manage to whisper breathily.

I walk him to the door not knowing what to say, but I’m not ready to say goodnight. His lips part as if he’s about to say something then changes his mind. Instead, he pulls me into an all-enveloping hug. For a moment I can’t tell where I end and he begins. I take in his scent, knowing this is a moment I will be reliving in my mind over and over all night.

“I’ll text you.”

I think I manage to nod my head.

This man, whom I’ve known my whole life, the one that I have dreamed of, has the uncanny ability to render me speechless with seemingly very little effort.
