Not expecting such a statement from a man who she knew mostly as a serious soul, she found herself laughing happily before flipping on top of him and kissing him earnestly.

Chapter Forty-five

Luke loved Honey in a happy mood and let her take control of his body. She took her role seriously, kissing his face, lips, neck, rubbing everywhere with her body’s movements. Catching his hands in hers, she lifted them above his head and continued to grind herself into him flirtatiously.

Her swollen breasts warmed his chest, making him yearn to be able to touch and squeeze… kiss them and suck on their tips. Thinking of their sweetness had him in a bad way. Unable to stand much more of this passionate torture, he groaned and forced her under him so he could have his way with her.

His turn to mold her response. To unleash her appetite for wild, hot, pleasurable intoxication. Using his hands and lips, he lifted her to heights where her sounds of unleashed response heightened his own satisfaction.

When he entered her drenched welcome, the building ecstasy thudded through both bodies, carrying them away from their normal reality. Sweating, breath ripping through hunger, they joined, and both rode each other hard, fast… intensely sensitized to the other’s needs.

The aftermath of their lovemaking added a cleansing sensation for both. While caressing her arms and back and cuddling her close, Luke sighed into her hair. “I never want to leave.”

“Which means you have somewhere you need to be.”

He laughed. “Yes. The boss called a meeting for nine this morning.”

“When you say boss, you mean at the FBI building.”

“Uh huh. I couldn’t tell you before because I was working undercover. But I’m an agent for the FBI and have been for many years.”

“Yet you’ve successfully led a music band for months.”

“It just worked out that way. I used to play years ago. They needed someone to infiltrate known traffickers to find out where they were getting the drugs. Because of the upsurge of fentanyl, we had a suspicion that a lot of what was being sold on the streets originated in China. Last night, we caught the man in charge of one area of penetration.”

“Is he the same man I saw in the office?”

“Yes. He was one of the kingpins. Now that we have him in custody, we’ll work on him and hopefully get him to roll over on the others he’s involved with.” Luke didn’t mention that he’d shot the man. Or that the EMTs were able to stem the blood, and he’d survived.

Luke held her down for another loving kiss. “No. Don’t get up. Stay and rest. I shouldn’t be too long, but I’ll let you know for sure when they break me loose.” He left her with one last gentle caress on her curls, and a sexy wink before he headed for the shower.

Honey didn’t move. She stayed in the warmth their bodies had created and luxuriated. A thought kept trying to break into her pleasure and just before she fell into a deeper slumber, the words he’d said exploded in her brain. “I used to play years ago.”

Oh, God. No. He couldn’t be the one who’d hurt Katrina. Wait. Hadn’t he just told her that her sister had made an impact in his life when he was younger? And from the cadence of his tender voice, she had taken it to mean in a good way.

Sighing thankfully, she let herself drift off until dreams of death pulled her out of her sleep.

Luke headed into the office without worrying if he’d be spotted or not. No need to use the back way or hide from watching eyes. Once inside, his boss, SAIC Bill Flint gruffly congratulated him for a job well done. “Couldn’t have gone better, Stone. We have a lead on where the drugs are stored in Mexico which we passed on to the authorities on that side of the border. They’ve followed the trail and found out how the drugs were getting into their country from China. This morning they organized a huge bust to shore up that leak.”

“Good.” Luke’s satisfied grin highlighted his pleasure. “We arrested a dozen losers last night, besides the ones that died. Means we made the streets a little safer.”

Luke leaned back on Bill’s desk; his arms crossed. “Did Naz pull through?”

Bill nodded, his face wearing a grimace of dislike.

“Figured he would.”

“He’s not feeling too peachy. With a mangled leg, contusions, and a few broken and cracked ribs, the bastard’ll still survive for his trial.” Bill rubbed the back of his head, showing frustration. “Of course, it’s just a matter of time before the money-hungry, power mongers find another gang of misfits, and we’ll be here again. But it still feels good to know we hurt them bad this time.”

Dale showed up and chimed in, “Chrissakes… let’s take the win and enjoy the accomplishment.”

“Fuckin’ rights we will. And, Stone, you’ve been taken off the assignment.” Bill grinned at both men and then waved to the door. “Get out of here and take a few days off. I’ll be in touch.”

After Luke met with Internal Affairs, he went looking for Dale. “I wanted to thank you for the backup last night. There were a few close calls.”

“Hey, you’re the one who saved my ass behind the warehouse. I never saw the guy sneaking up behind me.”
