“Alright Nathan, you’ve talked me into it. I do want to go away with you.”

Maybe it would be the perfect time to give him my virginity. Because saying no to him was getting harder and harder.

NATHAN AND I ROSE EARLY the next morning and Neil drove us to the airport. I didn’t want to admit it, but I was excited about our trip. I’d never been overseas, even though I’d made sure to get a passport as soon as my parents had moved away. I had only been on a plane twice before, both times just a one-hour flight interstate.

Nathan and I checked our luggage in and went to wait for our flight in the first-class lounge. I’d never felt so important.

“I cannot believe I’m flying first class,” I exclaimed as Nathan and I sat down.

“I tried to get us a private plane, but I couldn’t get one at such short notice.”

I laughed. “How terrible. Have you ever roughed it in first class?”

“When I backpacked around, I did. But other than that...” He stopped and thought for a moment. “I flew economy once from Melbourne to Sydney because first class was booked out. It was pretty rough.” Nathan was smiling and I could tell he was teasing me.

An announcement came over the P.A. system announcing that our plane was ready to board and all first-class passengers were to board first. Nathan helped me to my feet and we walked onto the plane, the grin never leaving my face until we found our seats. Much to my delight, Nathan let me have the window seat.

“You won’t be able to see much once we get up in the air, but the take-off and landing is pretty good,” Nathan said, reaching over me to slide up the window shade.

I tried to ignore the scent of Nathan’s aftershave as his body came close to mine. It stirred feelings in me that I wasn’t ready to think about, especially since I had to sit so close to him for the next ten hours. “I’ve never had a window seat before. Liam always beat me to it,” I smiled as I did up my seatbelt.

“So he’s always taken everything from you?” Nathan asked dryly, his distaste for the way my brother treated me showing.

I sighed. I was frustrated that every time I mentioned my brother it turned into an argument. “Can we make a deal not to argue on this holiday, Nathan? Let’s just relax and have a good time, please?”

A slow smile spread across his face as he leaned over and kissed me softly on the cheek. “I’m sorry, angel. You’re right. No arguing on this trip, I promise.”

“You know, you’re not such a bad person when you let your guard down a little bit.”

Nathan laughed. I think he was secretly starting to enjoy the fact that I wasn’t afraid to tell him like it was. “Thanks Rose. I’m glad that you think that.”

“No, really. Why are you so angry all the time? How often do you laugh?” I asked, studying him.

Nathan turned to look at me. “I’m not angry, Rose, I’m just tired. I guess I didn’t realise how much I’ve been working and how exhausted I am.”

“Well then, let’s do it. No talk about work, Liam, money, or anything like that. Let’s just have a good time, hey?”

Nathan leaned over and kissed my cheek again. “That is a very good idea.”

TEN HOURS LATER THE plane landed at Honolulu airport. It had been a good flight. Nathan had been relaxed. We talked about his travels and things we could do in Hawaii together. We talked about living in Sydney and where we grew up. Our conversations were light and fun. All serious topics were avoided. After a long process through customs, Nathan and I were taken by limousine to a beautiful, tropical resort right on Waikiki beach.

“Oh wow. Nathan, this place is amazing!” I marvelled as I stepped out onto the balcony of our deluxe penthouse suite. I’d never stayed anywhere so grand before. From where I was standing, I could see from one end of the famous beach to the other.

Nathan watched me as I walked around the suite checking everything out. I think my delight and enjoyment was making him smile. I knew I was the complete opposite of any of the women he’d ever been with. I bet they were always so cool and sophisticated, completely unfazed by anything like this. I was like a kid in a candy store. I just hoped that I didn’t embarrass myself and look like a silly child.

I stopped talking a mile a minute about the room and the beautiful beach, and turned to look at Nathan. He was still watching me with a slightly bemused expression on his face and I instantly felt my cheeks flush.

I grinned sheepishly. “Sorry, am I talking too much?” I asked, the blush deepening.

Nathan laughed. “Not at all. I’ve never seen anybody with so much energy after a ten-hour flight.”

“I’m just a little excited to be here. Do you want to go down to the pool and have a swim? I’ll be so nice after all that time sitting on the plane, very relaxing for your body.”

“Sure. You go and get changed. I just have a few calls to make.”
