As the world slowed down, and sweat beaded along our skin we stared into each other’s eyes our breathing heavy and labored.

“You’ll be sore,” he whispered.

“From what I’ve read, I think it’s to be expected.”

He played with my hair for a few moments before rolling away. I eased up and watched as he padded naked to the guest bathroom. I heard the water turn on and figured he’d gone to take a shower.

I laid back, wondering if I’d ever go back to feeling normal, while my eyes darted along the popcorn ceiling above.

I felt the bed dip and Ashton leaned over me.

“I’ve run you a bath, with a little Epsom salt. Come.”

His words shocked me at how tender he was. I hadn’t expected this from him. Nothing about this evening had been expected.

I followed him to the bathroom and saw that he’d filled the tub with bubble bath and hints of lavender floated in the air.

He stopped at the doorway, his hand on the knob. “Relax for a little while, Sakura. I’ll be back in a bit.”

Once he disappeared leaving me completely alone, I let the sheet I’d dragged with me drop to the floor. The water was hot, the bathroom had turned steamy.

I glanced at my reflection in the mirror and saw my hair had started to dry and looked frizzier than usual.

Dipping a toe into the water, I found it was the perfect temperature for a sore body. A grin broke out on my face and I touched at my lips thinking about what had just occurred.

You just fucked your husband, I thought.

Sinking into the tub, I lay back and let the hot water envelope my body. I sank as deep as I could until I was under the water.

Things had changed for me, physically and mentally in a matter of moments. I wanted to soak in the tub, under the hot water, and analyze everything that had just happened.

Sakura…

I wanted to analyze what that word meant and decided I’d google it when I had a chance.

Coming up for air, I found Ashton sitting on the toilet with a steaming cup of tea. He’d also gotten dressed, and I remembered where I was. Biting my lip, pulled up the suds trying to cover myself.

He grinned. “Don’t get shy now.”

“I’m…I’m not,” my chin poked out in slight defiance.

He leaned over and handed me the tea which I took a sip of. There was a slight bitter taste followed by sweetness.

“What is this?” I drank more of the hot liquid.

“Japanese cha…or rather Japanese tea,” Ashton shrugged. “It’s my company’s brand of tea.”

I raised an eyebrow, stupidly. “Tea?”

He raised one in return. “Yes, why?”

…its nothing even your criminal husband can do to save you, the words slithered through my brain like a snake through grass.

“Nothing,” I shook my head.

The truth was, I hadn’t asked what Ashton did. I had gone into this marriage blindly knowing that at the end of it, I would have more than enough money to stay hidden.

Except, they’ve found you, I thought.
