Ashton took a deep breath and I handed the cup back to him. “I figured you had researched me. Didn’t Ms. May tell you?”

I shook my head, “She didn’t, and I didn’t ask. Should I have?”

He stood then, leaning over me and dropping a kiss into my hair. “You shock me, Halo. Not many people do that.”

Tell him why you stay away from the internet…

Ashton quietly left out of the bathroom, and I slowly sank beneath the suds one more time. The water was starting to cool down. I had no idea what time it was, but I knew it must’ve been late.

Once I climbed from the tub, I eased into the guest bedroom and found no signs of anything. The bed had been stripped of the sheets and a robe was on the corner of the bed.

Ashton had taken my virginity, ran me a bath, made me tea, and then disappeared.

I slipped the fluffy robe onto my body, still thinking as if unable to yet turn off my brain. A slow yawn tumbled out of me, and I slowly eased the bedroom door open.

Soft voices carried in hushed tones and where I found Ashton and his head of security speaking.

“What’s going on?” I asked my voice full of sudden worry.

Ashton turned to me, and I noted how stern he looked. His guard nodded to me before pinching his lips.

I didn’t care about his though. I wanted to know why my husband had gone from being so sweet to extremely grumpy.

“It’s nothing,” he snapped quickly. “Go to your room. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Ash…”

He had already turned back around, waiting for me to leave and I had no idea what I could have done.

But I wasn’t going to stick around waiting for him to say anything else.

I made my way up the stairs and to my bedroom. Pulling on an old t-shirt, I fell into bed getting beneath the cozy comforter. Tossing and turning in the dark, I lay there wondering what had made Ashton’s entire attitude change.

I would get my answers the next morning when I awoke to find Ashton’s steely gaze staring down at me.

HALO

“What are you doing in my bedroom?” I sat up immediately alert. “Is everything okay?”

The door to my bedroom was closed, and Ashton was leaning against it.

His mere presence had awoken me it seemed.

Ashton finally spoke, his voice clear and concise. “I wanted to apologize to you.”

“About what?”

He took a breath, and I watched as his hands flexed where they were by his side. Finally, he folded his arms as if making a barrier between the two of us.

“Last night, it shouldn’t have happened,” he shrugged.

Closing my eyes I listened to his words before they snapped open. “So, you fucked me, and now you’re sorry about it.”

He went to push away from the wall but stopped short. “You don’t understand. I’m not who you think I am, Sakura.”

Anger began to run through my body and I finally flipped the covers away, getting to my feet. It was Saturday morning and I was sure the girls would be up at any moment. They had equestrian practice at eleven.

I sneered at my husband, feeling like my blood pressure was about to go through the roof. “And what does that even mean?”
