I heard the faint sound of a motorized vehicle.

It reminded me of an ATV. “Is that an ATV I hear?”

“Shit!” Kennedy growled. “Yes. There are more ATVs in the garage we passed.” She hitched a thumb over her shoulder.

“Kennedy and I will track them down,” I stated, hustling toward the garaged.

“Boss, you two can’t go without back up,” Clip bit out as he ran behind us.

“You don’t know if they have backup.”

I didn’t answer my best friend. Once we were in front of the garage door, I lifted it. Six black ATVs sat neatly in a row.

“Clip, you can follow us.”

“Gee, thanks, Franco. You know I wasn’t asking, right?”

“Unfortunately, after being your best friend for most of my life, I know that,” I said.

He smiled, slamming a fist into my shoulder. For the first time in a while, my best friend smiled.

“Clip, after this is over, go get laid. You need a woman badly.” I stated, hopping onto one of the ATV four wheelers.

“Are you trying to get rid of me? Now that you have Kennedy?” He asked as he turned the key. The ATV four-wheeler purred to life.

Kennedy stared between us from her ATV in the middle, revving her engine.

“Yes, it's overdue.” I changed the subject. “We’ll grab rubber bullets from Vigo.”

Clip shook his head. “Ok, Franco.”

I hit the gas, burning rubber as I turned onto the road big enough to accommodate an SUV.

“Vigo,” I said as I slowed to a stop. “Give us the rubber bullets.”

His brows rose. “Boss, be careful. That asshole will shoot to kill when he realizes you guys are on his trail.”

“I know.” My gaze met Kennedy’s. “You’re to stay behind me.” I loaded the rifle with rubber bullets. Clip did the same.

She shook her head as she loaded her weapon with rubber bullets. “I’m ready for this to end now.” Kennedy swung the rifle strap until the rifle rested on her back.

“Sorry Franco. But the motherfucker almost killed me.”

Kennedy tore down the path.

“Fuck,” I roared as I barreled down the tunnel behind her. At least she didn’t turn on the headlights. We didn’t want them to see us coming.

Driving at about sixty miles an hour, we finally caught up with them. Isadora’s arms looped around Keziah’s waist as she peered back at us. Isadora’s lips moved and Keziah nodded, increasing her speed. Anders nodded for his daughters to drive ahead. He peeked over his shoulder, aiming an Uzi.

My heart slammed against my ribcage. Keeping my wife safe was my entire mission. As much as I wanted to kill her father, her safety was more important.

“You’re all dead,” he shouted like a mad man.

I drove beside her. “Kennedy!” I yelled.

There was that tunnel vision again. Once she planned to kill someone, there was no stopping her. Anders stared at the road ahead as he waved the Uzi back and forth, bullets flying in our direction.

My heart was in my throat. We leaned our bodies to the side, firing our weapons. Two of my rubber bullets struck his back. Kennedy’s rubber bullets smacked his head twice. He slumped over the side of the ATV four-wheeler, and it rolled to a stop. Isadora turned, firing an Uzi.
